+1 Consider what you’re trading off for those 10 pounds.

Also, realize that the cravings will come back after you stop the drug. For some people, they come back worse than before.

That sounds almost perfect

+10000

I used to eat like you. Had intense sugar cravings in the afternoon. Handfuls of M&M's or chocolate chips in the afternoon and couldn't stop. Was eating appx 30-40 grams of protein a day (at 5'6 120lbs) Now eat 1g/body weight of protein and the cravings are gone. I eat a small sweet treat after dinner (like a yasso bar, something that I don't portion out, which makes it easy not to over do it) and I feel so much better. Try this before the drugs. You can do it.

Your body dysmorphia combined with the binge eating points to deeper issues.

See a good therapist or even your general doctor to get started.

Drugs like wellbutrin are well known for treating binge eating. Topomax is being prescribed off label for binge eating.

But you will need to see a therapist probably to get to the bottom of it all.

These medicines are being studied and prescribed for eating disorders. They have for helping my family member with an eating disorder

Eat 30- 40 grams of protein at each meal

Try Weight Watchers. It really does work and reframes your mind on how to eat.

I actually have the same question. I just want to lose about 10 lbs. also 5'7, 150.
Would LOVE to lose from my face/breasts.
I exercise, eat right, but am 57 and it's harder when one's older.

Same same. 5’8 and 147 and would love to be 135 (or whatever weight gets rid of my gut that makes me look 15 weeks pregnant). It’s so difficult at this stage. I have to eat 1000-1200 cals to lose anything. If on ozempic, I would still be eating 1000-1200, but maybe it wouldn’t occupy my thoughts 24/7 like it does now.

I considered going this way, but ultimately I know the hunger will be the same when I have to maintain. So I might as well suffer through now too and gain experience/strategies not to overeat. But every once in a while I’m tempted!

Thanks. I'm so mad at myself and I don't want to take medication, but it's been literally five years of nearly daily resolutions that I'm going to stop eating junk food and then I just cannot do it. If I could do it on my own I think I would have by now. Anyone else tried this when you're not technically overweight but just feeling gross, clothes too tight, and eating poorly in general?

Are you prepared to take the drugs indefinitely? If not, don’t bother, you will just gain the weight back.

But don’t you concede that it’s easier to eat at maintenance calories vs weight loss calories? Some of us eg maintain at 1500 and need to eat 1200 to lose 0.5 lbs a week. So use the ozempic to white knuckle the 1200 period, and then go off it and eat 1500. Why is that not a plausible scenario?

You need to replace a lot of your foods with high-protein and high-FAT foods. fatty fish and olive oil and even butter are your friends. You will be much more satisfied and your cravings will go away.

stop eating as many carbs.

I am 46 years old. Through my 20s and 30s I weighted about 132 pounds which is my nice, most attractive weight. Now none of my clothes fit well and I feel disgusting. I will start the day out well with some oatmeal and fruit, and then a salad for lunch, but then the cravings hit and I eat multiple candy bars, down a sugary Starbucks drink, donuts, etc.

I am a smart, successful person and I feel so angry and disgusted with myself that I just cannot control these cravings. At the first stab of hunger, I just freak out, and nothing makes me feel better but junk food. So I have been thinking about trying those weight loss drugs in the news...Ozempic or Wegovy or something. Is it something that could work for me short term? Would anyone even prescribe it to me? I don't have any health issues...weirdly all my numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol) are good. BMI is even ok, but for me, this weight is not healthy, and I am eating way too much sugar and empty calories.

I would like to lose 10-15 lbs.

No. That's not what these drugs are for. Start by seeing a doctor and getting blood work. You might have insulin resistance.

You're going to end up giving yourself diabetes, in which case you MIGHT end up on those drugs (but are more likely to end up on metformin).

You are welcome to try. But it won’t work. You are also suggesting to temporarily alter your biochemistry. Do yourself a favor and read the mechanism of action on how this all works and decide if you think your hypo is plausible.
