Could you please share your experience if you lived far from your school?

Our kids had 35-40 min commute each way. After a couple of years, we moved. Much better experience for our family as a whole.

Our DD is in 9th grade at a school that is 50-60 min away in Northern Virginia traffic. It is hard for her to do homework in the car/bus because so much is online these days. The commute drained the life from her. This is not how she wants to spend 2 hours/day during high school. And, she rarely sees friends after school/weekends because everyone is spread out over the DMV. It was all too much, and she is transferring to a school in our neighborhood for next year. It's just not what she wants for high school no matter how excited she was about the original school. It also was a huge drain on us parents.

We do 30 minutes for high school but no one lives near the school so everyone is commuting in. Most of them stay after for activities and sports though so it is not an issue re: socialization.

DD commuted from FFX County to PVI in Loudoun. Wouldn't do it again and wouldn't suggest it. PVI itself was and is a &%it show so there's that. But the commute was horrible. The parking lot was worse. Horrible experience.

We regret having a commute that has to cross the Potomac everyday. Traffic is so unpredictable. K It definitely makes socializing more difficult (no one wants to come from MD/DC to VA you have to be willing to always be the driver. It’s especially daunting when your child starts to drive and they have to drive across a bridge to get to school or friends.
