Board members are usually intense. They do it because they think everything is wrong and they can do it better. No one wants to be on the board. Parents sign up their kids, volunteer and done. Excessive board meetings with idiots is a time killer. |
Same with our board. It’s very hard to get people and we have 2 vacant positions right now. |
That’s the thing. Someone has to do it or there would be no summer swim. But no one wants to do it, they just want to complain about others not doing it well. It’s a lot of work outside of volunteering at meets. |
I love all the complainers - these are the same people who NEVER want to step up. |
That’s true for some. It’s not true for many. Just because someone is complaining, doesn’t mean they haven’t stepped up or volunteered or even been on a board. Ultimately, boards can ruin it for the whole team. Many won’t accept help, think they know everything, or insist on controlling everything. Some are just jerks. |
I have seen both sides. Obnoxious parents that never volunteer and ridiculous summer swim leagues. The paid staff on the columbia neighborhood swim league are the worst. They are so lazy and make the parent managers do everything. Real swim coaches don't want to work for them so they get 15 and 16 year old kids. the Central Maryland swim league was so much better once we moved there. |
+1 A log of what you say is true. Ultimately, boards can ruin it for the whole team. They think they know everything, or insist on controlling everything. Some are just jerks. Our board has many parents who are 8U. They come to swim team and think it’s a shot show and they know how to make it better. They really don’t understand the dynamics of the team, the coaches, the swimmers and the parents. They also don’t understand the money aspect. Not LSI ding the money in the right places. They are also making up process as they go along. They already screwed up and the season hasn’t started yet. There also board members creating alliances. It’s sick. Parents suck. They ruin everything. Glad the kids don’t know. |
+1 Now our board is understanding how much work our A rep did. Our new rep is a lazy POS. New parents are the worst. We had a bunch of parents complain that pre.team was taught by SSL helpers/jr. Coaches. It was specified in the orientation slides. How can one head coach teach all those pre-teamers to swim? Think about it. Most teams use SSL helpers. That is summer swim. |
You might do better to not call your unpaid, by volunteer A rep a lazy POS |
Trying is one thing but we have parents where they can think of nothing else but WINNING! Its summer swim calm down. |
I love the teams where the board/parents are rude and dismissive to the new parents who are trying to step up and help. Who wants to be a part of that. |
+1 Exactly, calm down. We've been losing for years and last year was finally a really good season. It's summer swim, just have fun! |
Just because you volunteer your time doesn't mean you are organized and know what you are doing. How about you ask. Just sayin' ........ |
|
And because you are clearly much better organized and know what you’re doing you should step up and assume that role. But no, you’ll say you’re much too busy, all the while calling a volunteer a lazy POS. |
