People still masking every day at work

I saw someone at my work today wearing a cloth mask. That's truly puzzling.

They've gone off the deep end in covid fear.

What does symptomatic

I have a very allergic kid who masks a lot in the spring due to pollen. He doesn't "appear symptomatic" if you see him.

The cloth masks are for allergies. It's OK. Allergies are not contagious.

I figure that one of the following applies:

-they or someone they live with is immunocompromised, so they are trying to avoid catching viruses as much as possible (not just covid). Masks have been normalized by the pandemic, so maybe they do things now with a mask on, whereas in the past they might have avoided going to things.

-they are sick with some sort of respiratory virus at the moment and trying not to spread their illness. Again, with normalization of masks, people that might have stayed home will now go out and just mask.

-they have long-term anxiety about covid for some reason. As some have mentioned, it might be because they had a severe case or lost someone to the virus.

All of these things should evoke compassion, not derision, so I am not bothered.

People like OP seem to have another kind of trauma after the pandemic where viewing others in masks sets them off.

I assume it’s for pollen.

Hi! I’m op and it’s not that “I care so much!” - really; I have never asked one them and never will - which is why I asked on an anonymous forum that’s free to use.

But don’t you find it a little bit weird to still be doing this in April 2024 ?

OP, a lot of people do weird things. The fact that you are asking this and saying this is weird really shows that you do care about this.

it's normal to be unsettled by people who don't properly blend into society.

Wearing a mask in 2024 doesn't qualify as this.

I think all hospitals should have kept mask mandates. I dont mask at work, but I am hybrid and mainly alone when I go into the office. But I will mask up on flights and hospitals still. I have several at risk family members, and also just do not want to get any sickness myself.

What? Of course it does. Well-adjusted people do not wear masks in 2024. It's akin to being uncomfortable if an unkempt man muttering to himself approaches you on the street.

"Don't properly blend into society"? Lol. You might benefit from therapy. Or just more interaction with other people.

Lol, insecure much? This is such a crazy projection on your part.

Defense Contractor here - we also have a couple daily maskers. No gloves but masks every day.

They are trying not to get sick. COVID remains a big deal for some people. My family member has underlying conditions and loses months to illness every time they get COVID (despite masking).

I mask on transit because I don't want to add to my family's exposure for no reason. I have had COVID once and it was unpleasant and don't have a lot of paid leave left to burn.

They’re paranoid. I don’t think there’s anything reasonable about them anymore. I’m sure if you observed them for a period of time they do things that don’t make any sense. But the good thing is they’re not hurting anyone so on the other hand, who cares?

At Duncan Donut yesterday, I saw someone was masking like this:

(NOTE: not the actual person! Just some rando pic off the ‘net).
