Spirit forgot to roster Ricketts? I'd say they don't have much of a plan for her. Hasn't seen the field yet. How do you sign a 16 year old that has never played in any competitive matches?

I felt so sorry for her yesterday. I'm sure she was so excited to get an opportunity play, and then it was taken away from her due to an administrative error. It was very bad luck, to say the least.

Not a good look when you have the camera zooming in on the girl crying on the bench.

Not trying to be a Hater, but maybe a 16 yo should not be on a professional team if she is crying on the bench because her coach forgot to add her to the game day roster. This seems like a terrrrrrrrible idea to put a 16 yo girl in that situation.

I don't see any value for the clubs or these "professional teenagers" so far. I think it's a publicity stunt. Notice the girl for the Spirit no longer plays after hyping her year 1. She already got beat out and better players are coming. What did she accomplish to be given the opportunity? Nothing. She will have to sit the bench until she is 18 and then they cut or trade her? The girl for angel city is completely lost out there and overwhelmed. She scored goals against the worst U17 national teams in the world, skips a wonderful college opportunity and immediately starts and plays every minute in the NWSL. Excellent development plan.

These growing pains are expected for a sport and league that is experiencing rapid growth. Other sports have struggled with this over the years and made adjustments. NBA now requires 1 year of college but used to let players go straight from high school.

They will eventually find the sweet spot between giving younger players a direct path to pro, like in Europe, and doing what's best for the league overall.

Are you suggesting that college is the best path for development? If you are talking about national team call-ups, that narrative is shaky at best. Olivia Moultrie and Jaedyn Shaw both shined in the recent Gold Cup. Yes, I understand that Moultrie scored her goals against weaker competition, but you can only play the opponent in front of you. Shaw was the Best Player of the tournament, and Korbin Albert (who left college after a year) played every minute of every match in the midfield. And that's not even counting other American players who bypassed college (Horan, Swanson, Rodman) or left early (Davidson, Macario, Smith, Girma) to play professionally.

No I was not suggesting that. I think there are different paths and it's confusing. I never heard of Shaw until she turned 19 (terrible news that she tore her ACL) and she looks like a fabulous player. Albert played 2 years at Notre Dame and was a finalist for player of the year and is also a fabulous player. Moultrie started this youth movement and I don't see her living up to her desire to be the best player in the world let alone a starter on the full national team. I was pointing out the Ricketts and Fuller are 15/16 were both touted as phenoms (by who I'd like to know?) based on zero competitive matches and now look completely overwhelmed and overmatched. If there is a development plan I'd like to hear it.

You are all such hateful jealous adults. I'm sorry you're kid isn't good enough to make a professional team or USWNT of any age group. If you don't know the teen professional players stfu. They are human beings that you know absolutely nothing about her or her family. I can assure you Chloe is completely fine and happy. Stop reaching so hard and focus on your own child and come to terms with them never being her or any other younger professional player instead of hating on other players.

You scared me with the bolded. Jaedyn Shaw is healthy - are you thinking of Midge Purse?

Fuller is a star. She is the future of the national team and I think will be a starter in Nwsl for a long time. I do not think she looks confused.

While I think most girls or almost all girls should go to college —- not for development but because there is no future in women’s soccer—- Fuller is not one of them. She is the real deal.

I don't see it, but you might be right. It will be fun to watch in play out. I hope she does well contrary to the hater comments.

Someone posted earlier Chloe Ricketts being on the Spirit is the same thing as Freddy Adu on DC United...whatever happened to Fred Adu?

I was the PP you responded to. Sorry, I spelled Midge's name wrong - it's Purce (not Purse). I'm so sad about her injury. She missed the World Cup due to injury and then returned with a vengeance to have a monster NWSL playoffs, and now this additional setback. It's such a shame. However, if we can't have a healthy Midge Purce in the NWSL or on the USWNT, can we have the podcast she did with Katie Nolan back? Pretty please.
