Many of these parents boast about their kid going to bed at 7, after they pick them up at 5:30 or 6:00. So, they aren't really spending much time with them at all at the end of the day. |
What’s your point? |
It does for the children that need to sleep and are disrupted by little Bobby’s “quiet time” that is anything but. Ever wonder why these magical centers that caters to all the individual whims and wants of each family that they provide care for are so hard to find? Because if they exist at all they aren’t able to last very long. It doesn’t work in a group care environment. Give it a try. Report back at how it goes. |
Surely you know not every parent with a kid in daycare picks them up after 5? Many get picked up much earlier which is why our daycare like most combines classes at the end of the day (after 3pm), since so many have already gone home. Nobody is picking their kid up at 6pm and has them asleep by 7. |
The way it has been done for a long time, still works great. After 30 or 60 minutes, the lights come on. Kids who are awake, play. Kids who want to keep sleeping, keep sleeping. the majority of the big time nappers will easily keep sleeping with the lights on and some noise around them. There’s no need to hold their classmates hostage. |
Every child sleeps.
Young children must take naps during the day to function well. If the Daycare says they sleep then they need the nap Nap time is quiet time |
Nap time is quiet time
The young human brain needs naps to function In most states is mandatory at least 2 hour nap |
Haha, I am glad I got some nap supporters to speak up. If your child does not nap, get a nanny and stop blaming teachers. |
Oh my goodness. Grow up. |
Nobody is blaming teachers. Administrators are responsible, owner/operators, etc. who set policies and staffing. I appreciate all the people who are willing to speak up for little kids who can’t speak for themselves - it’s not “blaming,” it’s looking after your kid and what they need. |
They tell you they allow books, toys etc but the reality is they don't. Kids are laying there for two hours listening to music. I work at Montessori school. |
Our DCPS requires about 1.5 hours of nap time for pre-K 3 and 4. In practice, it’s more quiet time— they can read books and play quietly on their cots as long as they’re not disturbing other kids.
My kid only napped once her entire prek3 year— and it’s because she was coming down with something, as she had a fever later that same day. So yeah, most kids just play quietly, and it’s not a big deal. |
Kids need a nap to function well
If the kid sleeps, LET THEM |
Lol at the one poster insisting all preschoolers need naps. I bet you think all kids sleep through the night at 6 months and sleep 12 hours a night, too.
We have spent many years and thousands of dollars battling my child’s sleep. We’ve hired every trainer, seen every specialist doctor, done every test, read every parenting book on sleep. Mine stopped napping at 2. Before that she never took a 2 hour nap even once in her entire life. She’s always been low sleep needs. Some people just are. She’s met or exceeded all developmental milestones and is high energy. In short, it’s just bizarre that you are so convinced all kids’ sleep needs are the same. Thank you for reaffirming my decision to never have sent her to daycare. |
That is child abuse. I can’t believe parents tolerate this. |
