ODP

Where else in the world I wonder do the top players not represent their geographical regions AND the players that do Have To Pay for the 'privilege'?

Has anybody been to ODP tryouts this fall? My u16 son’s first is this Sunday. I’m wondering how many players come out to a session? And is it well run? We’re debating if the tryout is worth the time or if it’s a long shot. We’re well aware that many feel the best players aren’t playing ODP. His current team is a disaster and we’re just looking to supplement.

Every year the talent level goes down. ODP, along with HS soccer, are casualties to the club system cultural dominance. Parents are increasingly hypnotized into thinking their kids' and own self worth is dependent on where they rank within a club hierarchy plagued with politics and subpar coaching. The college recruiting structure further poisons the well and kills off ODP in the process.

Actually my DC had a great time. Yes well run, well organized, on time. About 20-30 per session. Some top talent, too, including ECNL and RL.

If you paid for the tryout then go. You can use it as a practice. I don't know about u16 but it's usually a good amount of kids.

You Do Know the Entire World uses the "club system"?

Everyone knows by now "top talent" doesn't go to ODP anymore.
No need to try to oversell it.
People will still pay to join it as is.

Nobody was asking you. Everyone here knows your opinion.

Yes, I know that the entire world is hopelessly addicted to social media, drugs, and club soccer. Acknowledging reality and aspiring for a better one are two separate but co-existing things.

A slightly magnified embellishment on the state of the world

Though with every kid now creating IG pages for their fans to share in their glories because she/he/them/they are soccer celebrity stars in their minds is absolutely bonkers.

My kids tried out. One hated it and said everyone on his current club team was better and would not want to go to the callback if he makes the list. The other thought everyone was pretty decent but that there were a lot of ball hogs.

The IG comment is funny and so true.

Amen. Blew my mind when I started seeing these for U12 and younger.

Don’t even tell me it’s for the grandparents.

Kids/Parents focused on getting views/likes instead of focusing on improving.
