are logo bags totally obnoxious?

I've been coveting one of those monogram/logo bags from MK or Louis Vuitton - I just think the look is gorgeous and classic and timeless. But are they totally obnoxious? Am I overthinking this?

I think the MK bags are too much of a copy of all the other logo bags. I personally prefer plain leather, but if you want logo I would do LV.

I love a fabulous handbag but I'm not a fan of logo bags. The only appeal is the logo, which seems to have no other purpose than to show others that you are "in" on the trend and spent a lot of money. It just turns me off. Clearly I am in the minority though, as I see women carrying them all the time. (Often with really cheap or ratty clothes, which just makes even less sense to me.)

Yes. This. Apparently having a really expensive and showy handbag makes it ok to walk out of the house looking completely like shit. I've seen women wearing what must be pajamas and carrying an MK bag like suddenly they're the cat's meow. Don't be one of these women, OP! And, they're just sort of ugly, not obnoxious bags.

Yes, they're obnoxious. Lots of people who have more money than class will tell you otherwise, though, so you will hear what you want to hear, sooner or later.

There are so many gross knock-offs now that the LV bags especially are passé, I think...

The MK bags seem really tacky to me. I have no idea how much they cost, but they look cheap. LV on someone who isn't otherwise impeccably dressed always makes me assume they got it from a street vendor somewhere.

I'd focus on getting a bag you like. If it happens to have a logo on it then that's okay.

I agree with this. I like Gucci too. Don't do MK.

Why don't you post a specific bag? I don't think they are all the same - in fact, I am not even sure what bags you have in mind. There are certain styles that are everywhere (+copies, or they are mostly copies) but there are others that are not as present. LV has a pretty large collection, so if you have money to spend, then why also not spend some time to investigate the options. I like some of the bag in the Gucci Soho collection - yes they have a logo, but it's not in your face and they are not as common (at least I haven't seen them that much).

Honestly, and I'm not even really a handbag person, but whenever I see someone with a loud logo bag, I think they have it only to announce to the world that they have a brand-name bag. They are usually really ugly, so the only point is to tell me you think that particular brand is trendy and that you have enough money to spend on an mid-level expensive bag. And if it's Coach, MK, or LV, you are wrong about it being trendy anyway (popular, yes, impressive, no).

Also, when I see an LV bag, I assume it's a knock-off. When I see a Coach logo bag, it's usually all gold and shiny and most likely from the outlet store (which is lower quality). Usually the person with this flashy logo bag is wearing Old Navy or something with it. So either they spent all their clothing budget on an LV bag or it's a fake.

Don't do it, OP. If you want to impress people, look around for a really well-made and functional bag in an up-to-date color. It can be a nice brand, but you don't need to loudly announce it - those who you really want to be impressed will know what it is even without the logo.

Logo anything is tacky. They should pay YOU to advertise their product, not the other way around.

I hate logos. But I just bought a gorgeous simple MK bag w/out all the crappy hardware etc. at Nordstrom Rack. It had a MK logo thingy hanging from it, and I took it off. The only designer bag I covet is a black leather Longchamp tote. No logo.

I also don't understand the overpriced and logo-covered trend.

I found a pair of MK shoes that were on sale and I otherwise loved, but couldn't deal with the gold MK thing.

No problems with MK or LV bags, but when the logo is all over the bag, it truly is hideous.
