When it's your turn to bring snack for soccer/baseball/etc.

When the kids are young and each person on the team is assigned a game to bring snack--

Do you bring exactly enough for the players, or do you bring extras in case any of the players siblings want some?

Does your child have siblings that are old enough to eat snacks? Do they ever ask/expect to also get a snack after the games of their siblings?

Yes, yes and yes.

Extras always.

My question is: why, why why do we have to assign team snacks? And the oranges at halftime? Just seems like a good idea gone bad bad bad. I can bring to a game what my kids will eat and drink. Why must I bring 24 of everything?

Because you are part of a team and a team is more than each person doing their own thing.

Just politely say no thanks if you don't want your kid to eat it. Simple.

No, I still get on the snack rotation to bring oranges, drinks, snacks. I agree that families should just bring stuff for their own kids. I'm all for team sports and bonding, etc, but the snack thing is out of control.

I always bring extras for siblings.

My older son will want snacks at my younger son's games, but he will only take if offered (I tell him not to go over and ask in case there aren't any extras). My younger son doesn't want snack after his big brother's games - he doesn't even want them after his own (joys of a picky eater).

No, it's not out of control.

I'm a coach. If I didn't know that a parent was signed up to bring snacks for all (and then some), I would, frankly, feel it necessary to do it myself. Which I would, but I also have other logistics to worry about on game day. Also, you may not realize this, but I have already laid out a fair amount of my own family's money for this team already.

Team is communal. Be a part of the team.

Feed your own kids.

I brought just enough my one and only time, and was mortified to have a bunch of siblings lined up.

Why must we feed kids every 30 seconds? Oh, junior, you had to run for 10 minutes! Here, eat some food! Drink some juice! Heaven forbid your calorie output meet or exceed your calorie input.

How much 6 yr old soccer would be required for their bodies to "need' an orange, a juice pouch or Gatorade and a 6 pack of Oreos or bag of Doritos? And the team only has the field for 60 minutes.

I think the snack idea has gotten out of control.
DS was in a 45 min class at Frying Pan Park several years ago. They had a snack there so the kids could learn about sitting at a table and having social time.....45 minutes people!
Its ridiculous. ( This was for 18mos-2yo's)

Kids should bring their own water bottle and maybe have a party after their last game. No need for snacks.

OP here

I agree that having snacks at all seems ridiculous. I was so glad when my son's coach last year sent out an email in the beginning saying that each player could just be responsible for his own snack, if his parents felt it was needed. But this year, my kids teams are doing snack.

I just know in the past, I've tried to have a few extra for siblings--but of course, you never know how many siblings might show up, so sometimes I've been short and not been able to give to everyone. When I've had to bring siblings to games, I don't let them go ask for snack--sometimes the parents have brought extra and actually invite the siblings to get a snack...but I only let my (non playing) kid get one if the parent specifically offers.
