Need to Loose Weight - Need Advise what really works

Anonymous
I am 37 year old female and need to loose about 60 lbs. I have tried diet control and exercise on my own. Nothing works for me. The doctor says all; vitals are good and hormones in balance. This is affecting my life negatively and I want to take control.

Please advise me what really works. I am willing to spend money and time and change my routine/habits. Is there a diet plan or exercise regime that works? I also did gym for two years and that didn't bring it down either. Please share your experience.

+1 This is the only thing that has ever worked for me. Never hungry, losing weight without effort, etc. It's amazing. Read "Why We Get Fat" and make the suggested changes. I still eat dairy, fruit, and other carbs in moderation and the weight keeps coming off without counting a single calorie or even exercising. Good luck!!

No. Yes, cutting out processed food is good. However, you need to eat in a way that you can sustain long term, following a Mediterranean diet for example.

I would consider taking classes that get you moving aerobically and making sure you hit your target heart rate.

Personal trainer 3 times a week and weight watchers or regular meetings with a dietician.

Weight watchers is the best plan around because it forces you to make changes that you can sustain after the diet is over. After I did it, I never put the weight back on. Also, it doesn't force you to completely eliminate anything. I think some of the diets suggested here are difficult to sustain and when you go off of them you are more likely to gain everything back.

Its all the stuff you already know -- healthy food, limited portions for many (not all ) foods, and exercise. WW can give you an accessible structure for doing this.

I am convinced that pretty much all diets "work" in that you will lose weight if you follow them. The problem is that the vast majority of people are not following the diet after 12 months and regain all the weight or more.

Talk to people you know who eat healthy and see what they do, talk to your doctor, talk to experts. Read. Think.

Find a new way of eating that works for you. You may find success being part of a group with a public commitment or a scorecard point system or having meals delivered to your home or meals picked from a section of the freezer section or eliminating groups of food like wheat or sugar or dairy or meat or having a guru tell you what to do.

Exercise can be really important so don't ignore that half of it.

Good luck!

I lost 57 pounds from January 8th, 2012-June 8th-2012. I started by doing the Advocare 24 Day Challenge. It helped me get on track and it helped me cut out sugar, soda, etc. Some people will say it's a "pyramid scheme" but I know so many people who have done it and have loved it. It really works and it helped ME get a jump start on my lifestyle change.

I moved in June so I unfortunately wasn't as strict as I had been but I did maintain from June-December. Since January of this year, I have started eating more healthy again and am down another 20 pounds. I have about 30 more pounds that I want to lose to be at my goal weight and what has been working for me is cutting out ALL drinks except for water and seltzer water (no soda, juice, etc.). I have cut out all white carbs and all sugar (besides fruit).

A typical day for me eating wise looks like this:

Breakfast: egg whites with 2 slices of turkey bacon OR plain greek yogurt with fruit in it
Snack: Cheese stick & apple
Lunch: Big salad (w/ grilled chicken, cut up baby carrots, chick peas, etc.)
Snack: Almonds OR thinkThin bar
Dinner: Turkey Burger with veggies OR grilled chicken with veggies

I also work out 6 days a week doing 45 minutes to an hour of cardio and 30 minutes of weights.

I have lost 38 lbs on WW since around October, it works if you follow it. I am in my late 40s and have been overweight since having my (now grown) children, and never thought I could do this. It can be done.

I've done pretty well on the following diets:

The "Only eat between 12 and 8 " Diet

The Atkin's Diet

The Paleo Potato Diet

The "Drink 8oz of water everytime you feel like eating" diet

WW points Diet

All these diets worked for me, until something threw me out of my nice new habits- Illness, holidays, pregnancy, etc.

Now I'm doing the No S Diet, and nothing's thrown me so far. I'm down about ten pounds. The key is to know your weaknesses and food triggers, and avoid those. Do that well, and any diet you try will help you lose weight.

I will agree with Paleo/Primal Google Whole30 for more info. And I do think it's sustainable long-term if you're striving for 80/20 or 90/10 compliance.

Don't let the purists on PaleoHack discourage you. You can make positive changes and still use regular soy sauce instead of coconut aminos without dying.

Trainer. Given that it sounds like you need more supervision, I'd do trainer at least once a week and follow a nutrition plan. If you're not able to stay on your plan on your own, join WW. It sounds like accountability is your issue.
