how long does it really take to drive to Orlando?

Can't believe I'm even contemplating it, but ...

14 hours? It will depend where you are coming from.
I come from Northern VA and when we left at 4-5 am, we have arrived around 7 or 8 pm. That is with a few bathroom/meal/gas stops.

We've done it several times. It's a long hard day, but survivable.

13 to 16 hours depending on how many times you stop. Why not take the autotrain - it leaves Lorton and drops you off in Sanford next to Orlando. So much easier. They feed you, you can sleep, etc., and you wake up there.

new poster here. I looked into the auto train recently and it was 2xs the cost to fly.

And it is expensive as heck!!!!

We drove down in June. With stopping, potty breaks (one of the kids potty training), it took us between 14-16 hours.

We left here around 9 at night and drove just south of the border in SC and stayed at a hotel there. Arrived around 4 am I think. We then got back on the road around noon and hit florida around 7

Coming home, we drove straight home, only had the 13 yo with us coming home, and I think it still took close to 15 hours because we stopped at south of the border to check that out, and to go to the bathroom and get food.

Cost us roughly $400 in gas. WAY less than the train and actually less time too.

Just checked the rates. Just over $1100 for 2 adults, 2 kids and one vehicle.

Uh, check again and this time add in the cost of 4 sleeper berths (if you can even get them.) Unless you want to make your kids try to sleep in their seats overnight?

There's this amazing thing, called Google maps...
No seriously though. We left DC after dinnertime Saturday, stopped at a motel like pp said somewhere near Florence, got up and were at our Orlando hotel in time to enjoy the pool waterslide for a few hours before dinner the next day. Recommend you make a hotel reservation along 95 in advance. Coming back we started from the beach in northeast Florida and made it back in one day.
