This is nothing like Vietnam.

Unreal that anyone would equate this to Vietnam protests.

Yes, they are. The way the protestors are being demonized to discredit them and in order to justify the use of force against them is very similar.

Force is being used against them because they will not follow rules and laws. Pro Palestinians act so surprised when told "no". You really can't just do what ever you want. Really you can't.

One. An argument in favor collective punishment from federal judge is really, really terrible. They won’t hired Columbia undergrads who actually opposed the protests 8 years prior? This statement is so bad that . . .

Two. One might suspect these were all Trump nominees. You know, the ones the ABA rated as “unqualified”. That would be because . . .

Three. They are. Every single one nominated by Trump. I mean— Matthew Kaczmaryc? That should be Your first clue right there.

A couple other points. This makes the delegitimization and politicization problems the federal judiciary has been starting with Clarence and Ginnny Thomas (not helped by Aileen Cannon or Matty K) so. much. worse. John Robert must be ready to go postal.

Also, these MAGAtt pimped out the by thr Federalist Society were never going to hire liberal law clerks. They are heading for Hillsdale and Liberty grads anyway. And Ivy caliber law clerks would never work for them even if offered. Not all federal clerkships are created equal. Most a prestigious. But, there are exceptions. Some can be career killers. Interesting article about Aileen Cannon’s clerks quitting. Google “cannon law clerks quit”.

In fact, the only thing that is Wow! Here is that Cannon had the sense not to sign this. I guess if you’re a laughingstock long enough, you start making better choices.

If these people are as awful as you say, then students should be thrilled that Columbia and Harvard won't associated with them.

Well, Harvard and Columbia always have some eager beaver young Federalist Society members. I guess they would be upset. But yeah— they aren’t respected jurists. And liberal or moderate or even moderate conservative students wouldn’t send resumes to them. Your would need to be pretty far to the right and want a career in right wing politics or some form of right wing activism to want these judges names on your resume. So, I’m not sure whom they think they are hurting here. In reality, only people who are already pretty far right. And they are looking for Libert, Bob Jones U, Hillsdale, etc undergrad anyway.

moderate or sending resumes to THiS crew. Again, Matty K? I mean…. Who would clerk for him to being with?

This is simply not true. You obviously know nothing about clerkships.

Only RWNJs are going to clerk for Kaczmaryk. That name is going to stick out on resumes and only people who want it for that reason and who are ok clerking for a RWNJ will apply

Keep digging. It’s entertaining. You know nothing of clerkships.

You may remember that they started after the murder of George Floyd. A black man killed by police.

Police officers began clearing University Yard at The George Washington University in Washington D.C around 3 a.m. today after multiple warnings to clear the encampment. "Protesters that refused to leave the site were taken into custody. About five police vans were filled with arrested protesters, including students, by 5 a.m. A small rally formed on G Street, with students cheering on arrested demonstrators as police barricaded the block around University Yard." Mayor of D.C. and police Chief "planned to meet with lawmakers Wednesday morning at a House Oversight hearing on the District’s response to the GW encampment."

What exactly will these lawmakers do?!

As classes and finals come to an end, rallies will form in other areas.

Well, Shai Davidai posted a pic of Muslims praying on campus and the caption: This is Columbia University right now. Please share to let the world know.

It seems pretty clear he's upset that Muslims have the audacity to pray on campus. Since that's the only thing they were doing in the photo.

So that’s confusing. The twitter link you posted takes you to a Twitter handle called Stop Arab Hate, where they have a still of a video that this guy Shai apparently posted. You can tell it was a video because of the length and volume button. But then I searched Shai’s twitter and didn’t see the video there, so I guess he took it down.

You can keep saying that but it’s wrong. I had multiple federal clerkships and certainly I was selective where I applied based on the reputation of the judge. Likewise I know something of the hiring process of judges.

that’s idiotic. the GW protestors were there for 2 weeks. it was time for them to go. they are perfectly welcome to get a permit to protest in DC or to follow GW rules about protests. clearing the encampment was a way to keep control of the situation which is the opposite of what happened at Kent State.

that’s right. and then the George Floyd protests were coopted by the exact same element claiming that ridiculous slogans and extreme, disruptive and violent tactics were justified. we didn’t forget all those months where daring to say “actually riots are bad” could literally get you fired.

DP. I’m honestly not sure how it works today with more highly politicized judges. Back when I clerked (from Columbia actually, but only at the beginning of FedSoc) you’re right that nobody batted an eye at applying to any judge even so-called conservatives. The high profile conservatives like Scalia and Pryor almost certainly attracted and could select from the conservative students but almost certainly there were less conservative students applying to them. We certainly didn’t hold anything against our classmates who got Scalia clerkships. I myself clerked for a very moderate republican.

But things do seem much more politicized today so I’m not sure. For example does Justice Barrett get progressive clerks?
