Please help me choose a TSP fund

Anonymous
I'm 37-years-old, so not too close to retirement. What should I consider in choosing a TSP fund? Should I split my allocation between funds? Any and all advice welcome.

I'm 36 and went with the Target Date fund. Mine is for 2040. They invest in pre-existing TSP funds (I, S, etc.) and reallocate quarterly based on time left to retirement. Very low cost (a small fraction of 1%). Last year's return was over 13%.

I agree with an L fund too if you're completely clueless. Maybe 40/60 between the L2030 and L2040 fund. I'm 29 and initially did 100% to L2040.

Not just if you are completely clueless. Trading frequently will usually cause more harm than good for 99% of non-professional investors. Put the money in and forget about it - not just the easiest, but arguably also the best strategy.

It was once suggested to me C,S,I, given the popular TV show. Since my Roth was international, I've just been 50/50 in C & S. it's done well for me, aside for 2009 of course.

Wow, I almost thought I wrote this! My Roth IRA is International too, so I have about 80% between the C & S funds and the other 20% in the F, I, and G funds. Actually, I think I have about 2% in the G.
