Would You Be Upset if We Take Our Three Year Old With Us to Dinner Tonight for New Years Eve?

Anonymous
We have 10:00 reservations at Ruths Chris. She will have two naps today so that she will be awake to celebrate at midnight. Am just wondering if others will have kids out at the nicer restaurants or will we be the only ones.

Yes. 10pm at a nice restaurant? Where everyone else made reservations and is paying a premium to go out for NYE? They'll ask you to leave the second she makes a peep.

you will be the only one - get a sitter

I'd raise an eyebrow about having a 3 year old out that late but would stop caring pretty much immediately.

Unfortunately a sitter is out of the question and traditionally, we go out to a restaurant but parents are not able to babysit. We will probably ask for a table that is away from everyone else. The one in Bethesda is large enough to accommodate.

Bethesda? I can babysit.

ok by me! (mom of 8 month old who has been known to take my baby everywhere)

Why are you asking if you don't actually care what others think?

10pm - no effing way. I'd be pissed to be seated near you. And since it is NYE, some unlucky table will be near you.

The parent part of me will probably inwardly raise an eyebrow that your 3yr old is up that late...even though my own kid occasionally gets to do so.

However, the part of me that got a sitter in order to have a romantic, nice adult night out will be seriously and verbally annoyed if said 3yr old is engaging in rowdy or cranky behavior. Might be very age-appropriate behavior, but not situationally-appropriate.

No neighborhood teens or college students looking to make big bucks tonight?

I would judge you, whether or not I'd be upset depends on how the kid behaves.

I wouldn't care

You will be the only ones and I would be mildly annoyed. I'd only get full-on upset if she disrupted a special dinner that I shelled out $$$ for.

What makes you think you have your pick of tables at 10 pm on New Year's Eve? What makes you think service will be quick tonight?

I'm not a hardass on kids in restaurants, but you know it's not the right thing to do in this situation and you're just trying to get a bunch of people on the internet to justify your poor decisions.

Get take-in and stay home if there's no sitter. That's life.

This does not sound fun. You could not pay me enough for this outing. My kid would be exhausted, and I could not enjoy my $50 steak. I doubt there will be other children out after 10 pm under the age of 10. I hope you bring her an iPod with an engaging film to watch! Maybe a present to open too. You are gonna make her sit there for 2 hours? Ask to be seated near an older person who looks like they have 1000 grand kids and is possibly deaf. Don't drink too much, it is amateur night.

We have a three year old too. So I understand that part of it. It's impossible to get a babysitter on NYE. So I understand that part of it too.

So you know what we're doing? NOT GOING TO A NICE RESTAURANT AT 10 PM. See, that's the part I don't understand.

Yes, I'd be pissed to answer your question.
