What would you do with $2,000 of found money?

I closed my mom's estate (as executrix) this year, which involved a lot of work. It's a lot of work regardless, but I have an estranged sibling who made it very difficult for me, sent a lot of threatening/harassing correspondence, and who in general made my life living hell for a year or so.

I did not charge the estate executrix fees for my time, because I could not in good conscience do that to my siblings. (If I could have charged the bully-sibling alone, I would have.)

My other siblings got together and gave me a gift of $2,000 with instructions to spend it on something for myself - not my family, not retirement/college savings, etc., just for myself. I am very touched/moved by this gesture and am thinking hard about what to do with this money.

I've never spent this much on myself, at least since marrying and having kids.

What would you do?

buy a play kitchen.

Pay off debt.

$2K is not enough for me to do what I would like to do (new car, vacation, et.c.) and too much to do small things that I like (pedicure, pastry at Paul's). I would just save it towards a bigger purchase down the line, most likely.

I would go on a spa weekend. You should be able to do that for $2k.

Well if you are ok money wise for your family and expenses...treat YOURSELF to someting!

There is nothing wrong with indulging.

Do you need a new handbag, shoes, spa day, fancy dinner with DH and a babysitter. Just spend it and have fun OP!

I'm taking myself to surf camp this winter because i've always wanted to learn to surf. Is there a skill you've always wanted to learn or a place you've always wanted to visit?

Other than a mortgage, we have no debt.

New clothes. $2K goes pretty far if I could take a day or two off and hunt after Christmas sales, outlets, TJ Maxx, etc.

OP here. This is a good idea. Maybe some new clothes and a nice bag.

I'm also thinking about a piece of jewelry.

Spring break vacation somewhere warm.

OP, that sounds like a wonderful job you did. What a tribute from your siblings. $2k is a lot of money. If you don't have debt or big need for your family, AND if you don't have anything you really want now, just save it.

I'd rather save the $2k for something I really want, than blow $2k on random stuff to say I spent the $2k.

New watch, fantastic suit, or original artwork.

How many spa sessions will $2k cover?

I would probably go on a trip. Maybe splurge $100 for a massage or something and then save the remainder (and add to it periodically) for a larger vacation.
