If your child is in PEP, what will he/she be doing for the summer?

Anonymous
Hello, all. I have a son in PEP five mornings a week at an MCPS in Bethesda, due to social, emotional and fine motor delays. I work part time and have a babysitter for some afternoons and am home with him on others. Thinking ahead to the summer when he will be 4 1/2 - are there camps which can accommodate his delays? I could possibly increase our babsitter's hours, but he's doing really well with his peers and I would hate to have him spend all summer without any. What have others done? Thanks in advance for any input!

Why would you not ask for ESY?

What's ESY?

ESY = extended school year. You'll want to know the quality of the program if your child is eligible.

Summer Buddies in Silver Spring and a babysitter.

OP, not everyone qualifies for ESY. Moco also does therapeutic camps:

The standard for ESY is that the child will regress in more than one life skill over the summer if no services are provided.

ESY only meets in the morning so even if you do get ESY, you'll probably want to think of other activities as well.

And ESY is only for four weeks in July.

OP here. Thanks so much for all the replies so far. This is my son's first year involved with all of this and clearly I am missing some info! I will ask his teacher about ESY at her next home visit and look into MoCo's camps as well as the others mentioned. Keep them coming!
