Has Yale Become a PC Joke?

Anonymous
Ugh - well one result of all this is that its making me harden my heart against any debt relief for student loans. I feel like a big reason why college costs are shooting up the way they are is due to all of the administrators that colleges have to employ these days to deal with this absurdist climate. Look at any time one of these protests blow up -- the end result is usually the hiring of yet another diversity or sensitivity administrator of some sort. Not that they are expected to do anything -- its just a way to try to look like the university is doing something. That shit costs money though. Sorry, but if you want to pay $100K plus for 4 years of protesting with a minor in communications/sociology, then that's your choice. Just don't ask me to subsidize it. Christ.

To OP: Maybe. We’ll have to see whether the administration caves in to the 200 students’ demands. They were given until November 18.

If they don't, the PC radicals will want the university president's scalp, just like at Mizzou.

I came on to type this. This tempest will be resolved and OP will still be puffed up and proud if her kids get in.

The demands are ridiculous and the administration should tell the students to grow up. Caving in to these radicals will cause many alumni to sever all ties. What a bunch of stupid, spoiled little shits.

I can get onboard with mass protests against skyrocketing tuition. I think some of these demands are reasonable while others are not. Two points. Do the students realize that by creating more administrative positions tuition will go up to cover those big salaries? Maybe they don't care because they are from wealthy backgrounds and/or on full or partial scholarships themselves? And, two, shouldn't everyone except some descendants of indigenous people apologize for living on stolen land? That includes liberals from Greenwich. Back to the real world now. But wow--such anger directed toward the Chrisakises. I mean, the guy worked as dr in a hospice setting.....

These people protesting over their "grievances" don't realize how advantaged they are as Yale students -- including having been advantaged as URMs in the admission process to Yale. If someone's Halloween costume "offends" them, then do what the assistant college master suggested and talk to them. Otherwise, get over it.

This has gone on and on and on. There is no doubt in my mind the last several pages are sock puppets. No way are you going to have this many pages without a differing opinion in the last several pages.

The young adults have gone back to their classes, and the kids are still here arguing about costumes, etc, over and over and over.......

what? You do know the students have made several demands and given the administration until Nov. 18 to answer them.
I’ve posted on here a few times; this is a long way from over.

I think your assumptions are wrong. First, what happens at a place like Yale interests the types of people who read DCUM. Second, the fringe group of radicals at Yale is still making "demands" for changes at the school, which include replacing the two masters at Silliman (who had the temerity to suggest that perhaps students could police their own apparel without the administration telling students how to act) and making race-consciousness training mandatory for everyone at Yale.

If I were making assumptions, I'd assume that you're someone with a connection to the school who is worried about what this nonsense is doing to the Yale brand, and therefore wants to downplay it.

Just because a bunch of people don't agree with your views does not mean it's sock puppetry.

The irony of that is staggering.... One of the biggest turn offs about these incidents has been the feeling that people are trying to ban and suppress speech that they disagree with. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that that would extend to asking the moderator to shut down this thread. Unbelievable.

What is unbelievable is how you talk about someone shutting down the thread but you have no problem saying students at Yale and Missouri should be shut down. Never mind some of the despicable name calling of the URMs and veiled references to bwing on financial aid. Total hypocrits. And nothing to do with some loud mouth Yale student but everything about a platform to voice your disdain for minorities.
