| DH just accepted a job in Reston and we have decided, after much angst, to move out there. We like this house, http://franklymls.com/FX7929838 , but it's the first one we've seen and we're not at all familiar with the area or the market. We would appreciate any insight into the location or the price of the house. Thanks! |
| i know this neighborhood. it's the good part of reston -- walking distance to reston town center and the north point shopping center. several pools and tennis courts nearby. also, power never goes out in this part of reston. in this particualr neighborhood the houses don't have garages and the houses are really close to each other. there's probably a good community feel. seems to be priced right. north reston is great -- i love it here! |
| That house will go fast. Good upgrades and nice overall house for the price. We love North Reston--great for families and love the sense of community. |
| Looks nice. No garage, though. If you like Reston, it should work for you. |

I might move to Reston - that house looks fantastic! And the price looks great.
Signed, someone who knows nothing about Reston other than what you can learn from a few trips to RTC (but genuinely thinks that is a nice house) |
| small lot and small home and in reston not a winner IMO |
| I like it, and it seems fairly priced for the area. |
| Beautiful house but it feeds into Herndon Middle and Herndon HS. Don't know that those have the greatest reputation these days. I say that as a Herndon alum... |

OK, I used to live in North Reston. That is absolutely priced right for the area. Looks like it is in great shape. The ONLY drawback is the yard, but you are very close to parks and pools and lakes in that neighborhood. We used to walk that area quite frequently from our TH off of Lake Newport behind the shopping center.
JEALOUS! That was where I really wanted to buy, but we could have only afforded a larger TH in that area, which we did not want. Look for homes in the Aldrin or Armstrong districts. |
LOL. Put a school with Herndon's balanced demographics and high test scores in DC, eastern MoCo, or Arlington and people would not stop talking about how wonderful the school was and how great the diversity is. But, since it's in western Fairfax, it doesn't have "the greatest reputation." |
agreed. But, of course, this is the same board that regularly trashes schools in Fairfax that are not in of the top 5, yet consistently score higher than state and national averages in all the tests that people are so in love with. Say it with me now - DEMOGRAPHICS. Pack a bunch of high income kids with highly educated parents into one place, you will likely get good test results. And it has VERY little to do with the quality of education or lack thereof. But what do I know - I'm one of those little people who plans to happily plans to send my child to one of the "mediocre" FCPS HS's. So mediocre that it ranks in the top 15 in the entire state. Yeah, my neighborhood HS sucks ;P |
Darn lack of edit buttons - "who plans to happily send" |
| No garage would be a deal breaker for me, although the house does look nice. There are plenty of homes available in the area (Reston and surrounding areas). I think if you are willing to have even a 15 min commute you will have many more options. |
| I've never been to Reston but as a close-in MoCo person that looks like a very nice house - it would probably be priced at $1m in Bethesda. I gotta get a map and figure out why I don't live in Reston..... |

I love the look of that neighborhood. The houses are adorable, but small--the house you linked to is just 1728 sf above ground. I've toured a number of houses around that size, and they feel very small. (And we just moved out of a 1200 sf condo, so it's not as if I'm comparing them to my McMansion.)
Reston tends to be a little expensive for what you get, so that price is probably on target. I would not buy a house without a garage, but you may not care about that. Overall, the house is beautiful, and if the size and lack of garage don't bother you, I think you should go for it. |
