got a full in store credit refund for my 2007 leather Kramfors from IKEA today PSA

anyone out there have a Kramfors leather sofa? Just a PSA: Ours set weathered horrible since 2007 and I found online that they honor the 10 year warranty with proof of purchase. Called them today, sent photos of it in poor condition and they issued a full store credit - 1700+ to re decorate. They had advertised it as being good for kids justifying the higher cost and no longer carry it because of the complaints....just wanted to share just in case anyone else has one and is dissatisfied.

Did you do that before or after you returned the shrink wrapped peppers?

LOL....ok well you can call me cheap if you want but the warranty is there for a reason. Our sofa has been fraying and losing stitches for quite a while and I was trying to just deal with it. Now I dont have to. I paid quite a bit for it because of the way they advertised it and they have discontinued it for good reason.
I am hoping by posting this that others will be able to get a refund if they are in a similar situation. If you love your expensive sofa that is falling apart and feel you should just grin and bear it or re cover it at your own cost, then go right ahead.

Wow.

You had it for 5 years and then you returned it? I'm sorry, that's a scam.

Isn't 5 years about the shelf life of a normal Ikea sofa with small children?

Whatevs, OP, that's great. Did you actually have to return the sofa or did they just send the credit? Warranties are there for a reason--why is it a scam to take advantage of what the company offers? It's not like OP kept it for 15 years and was a PITA and demanded a refund, and they offered it just to keep her happy.

OP here. It started falling apart a few years ago and we have done various things to keep it and be ok with it. So it really only held up 3+ years and now we are just taking the warranty for what it is worth. I have seen a lot of these in houses so I figured I was doing a good thing by pointing out that people could count on the warranty because sometimes stores make it a pain in the butt. To each their own!!
And for us, I have had sofas for longer than 5 years. This was a very high price for an IKEA sofa and they charged that because it came with the 10 year warranty. I dont feel guilty about this at all. If I am in the minority , so be it

Oh and in answer to the question above - they are sending someone to come get our old sofa and then we get store credit right after the pick up we can use. I thought this was really wonderful of them.

If that was the case than Ikea is stupid to offer a 10 year warrantee.

Idea is awesome!

I think it is great that you took them up on their offer, OP! I had one IKEA couch and it just was so uncomfortable and unsupportive that I never bought another.

Yes, the warranty is there for a reason. Good for you OP!

OP again. It is nice to see I am not alone in my thinking. I was kind of proud of myself for keeping the receipt and actually just saw online someone got a full refund back to their checking, not even store credit. I dont mind having the store credit. We like Ikea and with three kids we have plenty of stuff from there.
I remember when we bought our house I saw the Kramfors leather in a lot of rowhouses in DC in one room or another. It was very popular back then. So I do hope this info helps someone else if they are having similar problems to ours. It was a great looking sofa and we loved it when we first had it. It is in the family room where all the kids are most of the time with dogs too. It was marketed FOR that and we have nicer stuff in the other rooms and I remember thinking it was pricey for Ikea but if it was tough and would last a long time it was worth it. Somehow I forgot about the warranty until I read about it online. The woman online bought hers in 2004 FWIW.
I am impressed with IKEA that they have discontinued it and are issuing refunds without hassle because their product clearly did not live up to its promise. That will keep me as a customer and I am happy to shop there again.
