I have never tipped delivery people who come from stores to bring me something I purchased.
For instance, this morning I received a new bookcase. Two men brought it into the room where it will live, and put it in place. Should I have tipped them? I know we're supposed to tip movers -- is this the same? I've never tipped for any deliveries, i.e. exercise equipment, new washer/dryer, couch, etc. |
I generally do--unless they're rude, or rushed, or late with no apology/explanation.
I figure they're carrying heavy things so that I don't have to. I've had delivery guys who have been fabulous about maneuvering around awkward corners/other furniture, making sure things are set up correctly in the right space, etc. The crate and barrel guys who brought my new couch even moved my old couch out to the curb for me (I was 8 months pregnant at the time). |
I also tip unless they are rude. |
I don't because there is normally a delivery fee already. Even if it isn't specified separately, you're already paying for the service. |
I wasn't home for my delivery (headboard) the other day but it didn't occur to me to leave a tip. I was already paying an extra fee for white glove service. WTH would I pay more?
If I'd had the option to pick it up in store to save on shipping I would have. |
