So...did anyone soften their opinion on Palin after her speech?

While I still don't think she's qualified for the job or agree with her on the fundamental issues - I must admit that seeing her tonight did give me a bit of a different perspective. I thought she was very charismatic, came across as smart, yet down to earth - and also looked great, which never hurts. I was also somehow touched by seeing her little son (and the rest of her family) up close and personal for the first time. Ultimately, her being on stage holding that little baby (even if only briefly...) having just given a speech accepting the nomination for VP of our country did, as a woman and a mother, connect with me on some level.
That all said, she'll still never get my vote for the reasons initially stated.

I thought she was a good speaker – excellent delivery with lots of personality. But I hated the speech. Too much sarcasm and too many cheap shots for my taste. It felt nasty and mean. There are ways to criticize your opponent without getting into the gutter. Too bad Palin is choosing to lay down with Karl Rove and his speech writing disciples.

I'm with you. I actually kind of liked her after seeing her family up close. My youngest son is the same age as Trig and seeing him made me want to get my baby out of his crib and hug him tight.

I loved the shots of her youngest son holding Trig...especially when she was licking her hand and then smoothing his hair. I laughed out loud, and then pictured my oldest son doing the same thing.

Still, I will never vote for her.

OP here. I also thought it was sweet with the whole hair straightening thing. Though, I feel compelled to add that while I enjoyed seeing that little guy and Palin holding him - I also took note of how brief it was compared to how much we see everyone else holding him. As I just noted in another thread, Bristol is certainly getting plenty of practice. Anyhoo, while the whole thing was sweet, it also highlighted for me how little time that little baby gets to spend with his Mom right now when he needs her (not to mention if she became VP) and ultimately that just doesn't sit right with me.

she looked like a spokesmodel and i found the parading of the baby who should've ben in bed pathetic. her jabs at obama came off as ridiculous. he is just in a different league and she is too dumb to know it. what a pawn.

She's great!!!!!

I feel energized and know a lot of other people who do too. I'm no longer riding the fence.

I thought she was an insult to the intelligence.
But she clearly appeals to the type of person that uses lots of exclamation marks.

well so be it-she doesn't appeal to people that cannot write-"I thought she was an insult to the intelligence" WHAT??? Certainly not yours.

You wre riding the fence between someone who has this woman's politics and Obama? You clearly are voting on the issues. Scary.

I think I will kill myself if I have to listen to her irritating voice for the next four years.

Her appeal also clearly extends to lovers of lots of question marks.

I didn't catch the speech last night.

I really have never had a problem with Palin personally, and respect her family choices. It's purely her politics that will keep me from voting for the McCain/Palin ticket.

Ariel Gore had some really interesting things to say about this:

See "Just asking" entry.

Also, it's worth notinng that no matter how terrific or not she may be as a parent or Governor, she voted to reduce funding for a program aimed at helping teen moms get on their feet.

I was really impressed with her. She definitely keeps it real. It was sort of refreshing to hear her after all of the career politicians.
And her family is adorable (DH is HOT! )...
Still, I can't get past the fact that she's a creationist and is pro-life, so she hasn't won my vote.

Thank you for sticking with the issues. I can totally appreciate people disagreeing with her stance on the issues. I'm just so tired though of the name calling and bringing it back to her being a crappy mom, etc. I would venture to guess that most men who have been in executive office are probably pretty hands-off dads.
