Palin Married in Aug 1988, Gave Birth 8 Months Later

So, although she was not 17 she was sure not praticing abstinence. Hypocrite.

Wow, we really have nothing else to do, but sive through marriage records, birth documents, and anything else to find something to complain about.

Besides, I can't think of a politician that isn't a hypocrite - Al Gore comes to mind first.

Big deal. Barack Obama would be the first to tell you that. He mentions his mother's pre-marital pregnancy when telling reporters to back off Palin. Another one of the mean-spirited pot-stirring posts and we know where it's coming from.

Oh, didn't you get the memo? The abstinence decree only applies to poor, inner-city girls. Good God-fearing, red-blooded, gun-toting white girls have the good judgement to "do the right thing" when Mother Nature asserts herself.

I agree that there is a double standard. Imagine the scandal if one of Obama's daughters was older and preggers ...

There is one HUGE difference. Obama is not a conservative republican VP candidate who touts abstinence and does not believe in educating people on birth control. Not mean spirited, just pointing out how conservatives do not practice what they preach.

Not a Palin fan by any stretch, and it does reek of hypocrisy. On the other hand - both of my babies were born early. Prenatal care in rural Alaska may not be stellar. It's possible she didn't carry for a full 40 weeks. Let's move along, since this sniping won't win the election.

15:06 here. I meant to add that Obama points out that his mother was 18 when he was born, after marrying when she was 3 months pregnant. Palin was, what 24?

Do as I say, not as I do. That is the problem.

I am LMAO. Do you really intend to suggest that this media circus could somehow be any bigger, more intrusive, and more negative if it were one of Obama's daughters (assuming one of them were 17)? Come on!

I am betting that a black candidate would not get near as much leeway and "understanding" if his teenaged daughter turned up pregnant. All this celebration of life stuff, how wonderful it is that she's "choosing" to keep the baby just wouldn't fly. The family would be ripped to shreds amidst moaning about the dismal state of youth today... and their permissive parents.

I agree with this response. The same people holding up Bristol's teen pregnancy as virtuous would, indeed, question the Obamas' parenting skills were one of their girls preggers, in addition to pointing to the stereotype of unwed black teens. Tsk. Tsk.

Yeah, the Palins are getting a whole log of understanding and sympathy from the media, the public, and, of course, DCUM posters. McCain's staff aren't being bombarded by questions from journalists wondering when Palin will withdraw. Right? Wrong. Your perception is incredibly skewed if you think that's true. You must not be following the media circus at all.

I have been very impressed by Barack Obama telling people to back off, and by black columnists like Courtland Milloy and Colby King saying the same thing. But the media in general, and the public (or at least the skewy public as represented by DCUM), are not at all sympathetic.

I'm referring to the Republican Delegates and others who are at the convention. They wholeheartedly support a teen mom and how wonderful it is to keep the baby. The same hypocrites would turn the other cheek in disgust if it were one of Barack's daughters. You can count on that.

The evangelicals I know, and I know many, would not turn away in disgust if one of Obama's daughters were pregnant and kept the baby. I'm not sure how many Christians you know well, but I suspect it's not many.

The Republican delegates at the convention don't shape the media coverage of Bristol's pregnancy. The media have not been sympathetic and that coverage is what will determine how most Americans view this. In fact, the media are not only unsympathetic, they're vultures.
