Mine likes athletic wear so I get a lot of hers from the men’s section now. She is in a size S in men’s.

What 10 year old is in adult sizes?

A tall one. Geez, get out more.

Are you OP? Your 10 year old is my size and I don't wear sexy clothes and don't have a problem finding not sexy clothes. Try Land's End, Quince, Gap, etc.

I'm 5'2 and wear a Lands End Petite M or XL but I can wear Lands End Girls plus size pants. You can probably find things either in Petites or Girls.

You really can't go wrong with oldnavygapathleta. They know a big part of their customer base is moms who strive to dress their children as average and boring as possible (I mean that in a good way). You can always find clothes with acceptable skin coverage along with the trendier more revealing clothes.

My almost 10 year old wears t-shirts and mid-thigh shorts. There is nothing remotely scandalous about it.

I was just at Gap shopping for summer clothes for my almost ten year old. There were some reasonable shorts and shirts but also Squishmellow and Hello Kitty half shirts along with lots of other half shirt options. There were some reasonable length short along with some very short cutoffs. Just go to the Gap to see what OP is talking about. To each their own but OP is not making this up!

OP said ALL the clothes are too adult and short. That's clearly not the case. People have provided other shopping options than where OP has found these unacceptable choices. I don't see women walking around and too short shorts either so even the tall ones should be able to find something.

She’s in med women’s or small men’s.

My 10.5 yo is about the same stats and the same size. Some of you need to get out more.

The athletic shorts for girls now are shorter than I’d like - especially for my skinny, not tall, but long legged, daughter. But they aren’t all so short that I’m forcing her to wear the really longer basketball ones - just keeping an eye out for the ones with enough of an inseam and an adjustable waist

This is our problem, especially because DD is super lanky, so last year's shorts will look like micro shorts on her but if we size up, they hang down. It's easier with leggings or bike shorts where the stretch can make it easier to fit into the next size up.

But she likes to wear her t-shirts on the baggy side, which seems to be a trend generally, so if she's wearing last year's shorts and a baggy t-shirt, she also looks like she's embracing the pants less trend. But like you said, it's not her trying to be provocative. It's that her legs grew 3 inches in a year but the shorts didn't.

Fortunately we are finding more bike shorts that go to the knee. So she'll often wear those with a baggy tee shirt. Even if it's a slightly cropped tee, she wants to size up and it will come down and cover her belly. Until she grows another inch... such is life with kids. I do feel protective of her though and get annoyed when people comment on how short her shorts or dresses look (even when she's wearing bike shorts underneath). She can't help how tall she's getting and she's just a kid -- not even a hint of puberty yet. I hate watching her body evaluated like it's an adult woman's (which ALSO should not be evaluate in this way, actually).

Being a girl (or a woman) is a giant PITA sometimes.

Old navy’s athletic shorts are cut weird this year. I have a 4’10 100 lb 9 year old. We’re all about athleta and in motion. I can see her being in adult sizes but we would stick with athletic clothes.

Also, give the second grader’s parents a break. It’s probably an old pair of shorts she’s grown out of.

Yesterday I saw a second grader in cutoff jean shorts short enough to show her under butt and a mesh top over a tiny tank. SECOND GRADER.

Where are her parents?

Wait until 5th grade graduation. Half the girls, including my own, wore cute floral dresses with short sleeves that hit just above the knee. The other half wore strapless body fitting short dresses, the kind that you would see in high school. My daughter prefers longer shorts and athleisure clothing. I see inappropriate clothes at stores, I just don’t buy them.

You can always buy longer stuff and hem it to an appropriate but still fashionable length.

If she's tall then you need to shop according to her size, not age. She has outgrown kids sizes if she's adult height.
