New Guy Thinks Microwave Is Poisoning Him

Anonymous
I had a friend who got rid of her microwave because she became convinced it would harm her children in some way. It's nonsense for people to think this way, but more common than you might think.

It also makes food taste funny. Probably because it actually robs that food of nutrients. I know many people that won't eat microwave food or go near one.

You should never cook food, microwave or otherwise. It destroys nutrients. And it changes the flavor.

You know that there are some nutrients your body cannot access unless you cook the food, right?

How did man survive before there was fire? Or are you saying we have evolved to require cooked food in the last 50,000 years?

Dude, read the response. Don't just answer what comes up in your head.

I wrote that there are some nutrients that your body cannot access unless you cook the food. That doesn't mean those are essential amino acids, and it doesn't mean you can't eat a lot more to compensate for the fact you aren't getting as much of some things from raw as from cooked food.

But it does mean your admonition not to cook food is one of those things that makes sense as an article of faith more than reflection of science.

PS: There are also harmful things (such as lectins) in some food items that are inactivated by cooking.

It's also an article of faith that "microwaves destroy nutrients." If you are going to be full on crazy, be full on crazy.

You shouldn’t even eat food. It’s full of toxins.

Don't get me started on dihydrogen monoxide. Everyone exposed to it dies.

Nitrogen too. The state of Alabama uses it to execute prisoners, but it’s now in almost 80% of the air our children breathe.
