Baltimore people: Can anyone explain the Marilyn Mosby case to me?

Cry me a river. She’s just another politician who feels entitled.

OP here again. Still trying to understand this case. Here's the latest:

https://www.wbal.com/closing-arguments-set-for-monday-in-mosby-mortgage-fraud-trial/

This is what blows my mind: "Marilyn Mosby faces a maximum of 30 years in federal prison for making a false mortgage application. In the perjury case, she faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison for each of the two federal counts."

I'm assuming she won't get anywhere near that amount of time, but still, these prison terms seem insane to me. What am I missing?

It's a political witch hunt. The DINOs in Maryland are looking to punish someone.

Not certain if my facts are in order or not, but shouldn’t there have been a credit check to confirm there were no liens? Moreover, why is it that as of 2017 tax liens are no longer a part of one’s credit record. In my eyes mine and I’m speaking of mine whenever one is delinquent and money is due to the issuer (federal government) it’s reported to the credit bureau. Some examples are student loans, child support and other delinquent debts. So how was she able to purchase not 1 but 2 properties, because I couldn’t without a clean report. I’m just asking? Someone please provide some clarity. I’m a little slow. Thanks!

She’s been on the outs at least since she indicted so many cops for Freddie Gray murder and couldn’t make them stick. Pretty remarkable, really.
She and husband have been living separate lives for years. There was a fascinating profile about their relation in the NYT maybe 5 yrs ago.

I believe the mortgage lenders reported the crimes initially and that is what got the investigations going.

Her mortgages in Florida were predicated on the fact she stated on the applications that the Florida residences would be year round second homes. You get a better rate if the mortgage is for a second home. Mortgages for airbnb's are higher.

The Florida condo communities are investigated by the mortgage lenders for airbnb operators.

Do you have any evidence of this? Sounds like her prosecution is anything but political.
your right, its criminal.

Lying on mortgage applications is illegal regardless of race. Plenty of white folk do time for this.

Mortgage fraud is the easiest thing for federal prosecutors to throw at someone once they are already looking into them.

Now, she actually did commit mortgage fraud. Egregiously. But its very, very common and typically no one ever picks up on it because no one has an incentive to pull the documents & verify. There's so many mortgages originated every month that the burden is too high to check.

In short, she got unlucky. She was high profile and federal prosecutors were already going through her life with a fine-toothed comb.

Fwiw, i don't think this is the white establishment trying to take Mosby down. If anything, it's the Black establishment.

+100, lots is people lie or make mistakes on their mortgage application. Big deal. The money seems to come from her own retirement fund, so this was unnecessary.

I just saw this woman saying she faces 40 years. All I can say is .

She got in the crosshairs of President Trump and the FOP. They dug and dug and NAILED this woman. Then Garland left the AUSAs alone and let them get the scalp they so desperately wanted.

Good. You want to free criminals, you want to embarrass police officers and Republicans, this is what you get.

Let this be a lesson for the Parisas and the other Soros “prosecutors”. President Trump is coming, and he’s bringing the thunder. I can’t wait!

Sure. If you want to be in the public eye you should expect that level of scrutiny. Similarly Trump probably wouldn’t be facing a fraud trial in NY right now if he wasn’t President. As with anyone though, if you don’t want to do the time then don’t do the crime.

As for Mosby, she most certainly is going to prison. I’d guess a sentence less than 3 years and probably serves only 12 months.
