Do politics necessarily have anything to do with relocating to Florida?

False -- I know many who have moved, but it's because of booming real estate prices. That's why they move to Georgia or SC, not DC or NYC or CA or Il...

Actually, they moved to Cleveland, Bethesda and Boston.

Some kind of joke I assume?

I was a "C".

I never thought the SC would overturn Roe. "Settled Law" My @ss.

Now I am debating what to do; I have teen daughters. It's very concerning.

We're A, considering a move from NoVa. It's just so political all the time here inside the Beltway, so in your face, we barely know anyone besides fellow trad Catholics who go to church, and the kids at the best schools seem obsessed with identity and weighted GPAs and are just generally unhappy. We're looking to west coast Florida, maybe a classical charter or classical Catholic school, or homeschooling - I'm just looking for a respite from politics and identity-indoctrination. My grandparents used to live in Florida and I loved visiting them, so I definitely have some rosy memories inspiring me, but also the cost of living, the weather, the supportive homeschool laws and generous school choice funding are appealing. Hubby and I are both Ivy grads but don't want our kids to obsess over college admissions so much they miss out on fun in their teenage years.

I doubt responses here will be very representative. But realistically, must be quite rare for someone to change states over an election. That's pretty intense ideology to do that.

There's a few people who have moved to FL because of DeSantis and a few who have moved out of FL because of DeSantis. In general, though, most people have lots of other reasons for moving here or to another state. I grew up in and raised my kids in NoVa and I'm totally enjoying living in FL now. Not perfect but for me, lots better than the DC area.

No self-respecting Ivy grad calls her husband “Hubby.”

They’ve just become empty nesters, but would have stayed put otherwise. They’re POC.

Everyone is a POC in Florida

C - moved here for family reasons and affordability and mostly ignore politics. People like to throw stones at florida but politics, education and society in general are shitty everywhere at this point .

The proper Cambridge term is "Hubs".

It's not just politics. DeSantis and the Legislature are spamming RWNJ policy and law. They just authorized using PragerU right-wing propaganda as a civics curriculum for public schools.

DeSantis is just doing it to look good for Presidential primary, but as the Republican party has shown for the past 50 years, once you start acting crazy for personal gain, real crazy shows up and takes over.

Actually that's "progressive" politics for you, which leads to corruption, growing violent crime, chaotic school systems...and substantial migration TO, not FROM, Florida.

I moved to Florida pre-Trump and the area I was renting in was very pro-Trump. I did research and ended up buying in an area in Florida that voted for Clinton.

Having said that, I become more conservative every year- although I still hate Trump and would never vote for him. I hate the banning of ideas, books, businesses, etc from both extreme sides of the spectrum.

I moved to FL in late 2020 and did some research before moving. The website voterrecords.com gives info by address of voters, their age and what party they registered with D or R or if they are Independent or gave no party affiliation at all. I was able to determine that the 150 unit villa and condo complex I wanted to buy in was about 50/50 D vs R with a small number of Independents and non declared as well. As it has turned out politics has been a non issue here. Lots of nice people of all voter persuasions and I love it here. There are clearly issues in FL that you and I both are probably concerned about but overall it's a good life.
