Cleaning steri strips etc from c- section incision

Anonymous
How and when did you do it? I am afraid it will require a lot of pressure to remove adhesive stickiness and this will result in pain.
I am also afraid to look at it - I would like to pretend the surgery did not happen -I have enough tummy bulge that I could live my life and never see that part of my body again. And I'm fine with that. Looking at the incision would be too emotional - and maybe would be too Icky, skeevy. Thinking about trying to clean this makes me cry.
Am I the only one?

Do NOT REMOVE the steristrips. They will peel off on their own. Let warm soapy water run over them in the shower, then promptly pat them dry once out of the water.

Don't get emotional over the incision. You had a baby and that's great...doesn't matter how he/she arrived.

Did your doctor tell you to clean them? For both of my c's, the doctor told me to shower normally, pat the incision dry and they will come off naturally with the adhesive. I think a little still remained and the doctor rubbed it off at my 2 week appt. I don't remember it being a big deal.

It's natural to have crazy emotions. I cried a lot after my c-sections. Don't think about seeing the incision too much. I didn't look at mine because I get fairly queasy.

I made my husband check mine for infection and otherwise left it alone / the nurse removed what was still there at 2 week post op appt- she used rubbing alcohol or something and I didn't feel a thing. 16 weeks out and it doesn't bother me to see now

I was told that if they hadn't fallen off by day 6 to gently peel them off. Leave them on too long, your skin will start growing over them. For some they never fall off...

This is by far the silliest thing I've ever heard of. OP, if this wasn't clear during your discharge instructions from the hospital, call your OB's office for guidance.

Skin growing over them? BWAHAHAHAHA

OP, just do the soapy water thing and they'll fall off. If they don't, by 4 weeks you will be so annoyed at those things hanging there you'll pull them out and won't even notice it.

If the sticky stuff is still there just use olive oil. Rub on it with a cotton and it will come out in a second.

That's how I removed mine and DS's stickiness from the tape they used in the NICU to hod the tubes into his nose
