Is it worth the day trip? Any good places to eat nearby?

We've gone with our elementary school age kids and all four of us had a great time. There's a garden maze there, which is also fun and family friendly.
Good summertime activity because the cave is cool. (Do the garden maze first, before it gets hot!) There's a restaurant there. Not fine dining, but edible. It's only smaller towns around there, so I'm not sure what other eating options there would be. Was a good day trip for my family.

| Yes, depending on how old kids are, you could also drive to Jefferson's Monticello, or just relax around the caverns. It's beautiful there. |
| Thanks, we have 2 six year olds. |
| The caverns are really neat...definitely something to see once. We usually do a weekend and stay overnight in a nice cabin (glam camping), take the kids horseback riding (yours are too young for that) and rafting. Virginia Safari Park is another couple hours further than Luray but incredibly fun if you can stomach a couple more hours drive. |
Can you tell me how to go about the horseback riding - is there an outfitter/company nearby? Thanks! |
