| 5 days in late June. Family of four. Mom, Dad, two dds ages 9 and 7. We have never been. Going by train and not planning to rent a car. |
| Huh... Can't you go somewhere else? At least stay out of downtown, there are protests everyday and it almost always gets violent. |
|
My family visited Montreal last summer. We went to:
- Biodome and the Botanical Gardens--just those two could fill up a whole day. -Notre Dame Basilica -Old Port, we went to the Science Museum and rented a surrey bike -Kind of across the street from the Old Port was a square (I don't know what it is called) and a Chinese family (father, older son about 20 years, younger son about 12 years) of acrobats performed a lion dance. I was pretty impressed, the younger son acted as the MC--his father would talk to him in Chinese and the boy would speak to the audience in both French and English. |
what on earth is there to protest in montreal? |
|
We are supposed to go June 1 and now we are thinking about canceling. There were 300,000 marching protesters through Downtown today. The protests have been going on the past 100 days, starting with students protesting a 75% hike in college tuition. But they've been setting street fires, there has been emergency law declared at times, and 100s are being arrested almost daily. I don't see much sign of it letting up. They move from college to college, through the streets of Downtown and the Latin Quarter. You can follow protest routes on Twitter with #manifencours or #ggi .

| We have a trip to Montreal/Quebec City/Charlevoix planned for June 9-23. Unless things get much worse, we will still be going... |
Now don't you feel silly? |
No? What are you prattling on about? |
The thing that concerns me is that they march. It's not like other protests, at least the ones I've been around, like Occupy whatever, or even Egypt, which we visited last Christmas. At least there, I could just avoid Tahrir Square and know that things would be fine. But I don't want to be walking around the city, turn the corner, and run into this:
|
| I'm pretty sure you would hear them coming. |
You know what I mean. How much will my movements be restricted because of this? How much will I miss out on seeing? Do I really want to pay money for that? Not really. |
To each his own. As things currently stand, we are not changing our plans. |
| I wonder what will happen with the Grand Prix coming up in June. Lots of money at stake, I wonder if they'll bring the army to clear the streets! |
