Skywalkers will do this at the HS level they will fly in girls from CO, CA and other places who want to play on a top club.

M an D will do this with any girl from any place. Skywalkers will do it from a couple of specific clubs in the Midwest

If flying in a player from, say, Connecticut, for example... do they change their name to M&D&C ?

Data Guy here. Going to plow ahead with week 5 predictions based on popular feedback, despite the strident objections of the thread’s new anti-gambling activist (or troll). (She may want to look at the slot machines in convenience stores issue, and leave the lax fans discussing games in peace.) In any case, these are intended for discussion and debate, or general info, and nothing more.

Okay, with Week 4’s excitement behind us, Week 5 looms with some key matchups to set up playoff seedings:

DC Area Clubs
--Coppermine -6 vs Stars LB (Stars has a tough test this week after their huge win last Sunday. Feeling good about the pre-season calls that Stars would make the playoffs and was developing as a team. They will cut their score deficit from their first game against Coppermine in the Fall in half.)

--Integrity -5 vs MC Elite (Integrity will win this one, but MC Elite will score. They are showing heart, competing through the end of games even when overmatched.)

--M&D Black -15 vs MC Elite (Alleged issues with scoring will not be present for M&D Black in this one. Hope MC Elite is buoyed by a good showing against Integrity).

--Pride -8 vs Integrity (Pride will take care of business.)

Key Matchups

--Hero’s Green -4 vs. Sky Walkers (Sky Walkers, one of the more mercurial teams in the top 25, tend to play the top teams tough—at least since last Summer. This one could be even closer than 4 goals if they hold to form. Going with a slightly bigger goal difference as I don’t think Hero’s Green will take them lightly.)

The Rest

--FCA -6 vs M&D West Black. (FCA showed some improvement in a key win against M&D Red. They should handle M&D West and stay on track for the 8th seed in the playoffs).

--Crush -7 vs CCL (CCL is physical and plays hard, but Crush is playing as well as anyone in the Mid-Atlantic right now and will win going away.)

--MDU East -4 vs M&D Red (A series of close games against top teams suggests that M&D Red could keep this one competitive as well. Only Hero’s Green has been able to open a real gap with this team. MDU will bounce back from their two losses to VA clubs last week.)

--3D MD -2 vs MD United West (3D MD gets a chance to show that it is indeed a cut above the second teams of the big clubs. MDU West is a bit better than their previous second team wins against Hero’s White and M&D West. A win would keep their slim playoff hopes alive, but they close out the season against MD United East in Game 8, and need to bounce back from tough losses to Crush and Coppermine first.)

--CCL -4 vs Hero’s White (CCL will rebound after their loss to Crush in the early game and beat Hero’s White, supported by a very loud and complaining fan. They could run the score gap up further if Hero’s doesn’t come to play, but they don’t have a ton of offense.)

--Hero’s Green -11 vs NEMS (Hero’s Green has way too much firepower for NEMS. Pretty straightforward.)

Does anyone know where I might be able to place actual bets on these games?

The best M&D 2024 is from Colorado. This happens with man top clubs in HS, which is why they always seem to get big time commits. Being on M&D is easier than staying on M&D.
I bet 2/3 of roster is turned over from 4th grade to HS.

I would argue the best M&D Black 2024 is from Virginia, but point taken.

Do the top MD teams still have open tryouts in 8th grade? I assume they must if there is still turnover or is this just by invite only?

Yes, there are tryouts for going into 9th grade. Always some movement - new girls make the team, movement between the A and B, and some girls being cut then move to an A team at another club and then still do great in HS and get recruited.

Invite only. You aren't trying out but if interested, you reach out to the coacg, get invited to a practice over summer, etc.

HG 28 is invite only.
MnD having open tryouts.

Info in tryout session of club websites.

Agree- each team might have had 20 turnovers, most of them unforced. Both teams goalies played great in the cage. There were also a ton of fouls and neither team could finish on an 8 meter. MDU did have three yellow cards in the second half which Pride capitalized on to score their last two goals.

Seems like a lot of the girls have not figured out a horizontal stick is auto foul, and one to the back is auto Yellow Card. Lacrosse needs to take a long look at how they coach defense. Colleges get away with a ton of stuff that you can't do at youth/HS level. Kids watch NCAA, if they want to clean up the crosschecking, they need to start at the top.
