Room and Board furniture

Anyone have any experiences with Room and Board furniture quality? I see their pieces in a fair number of shelter magazines, and like a lot of the design. Better quality/durability than Crate and Barrel, even though they are not too far apart in price? I'd love to hear your experiences. Thanks!

I was under the impression that R&B was a few notches below Crate and Barrel in terms of quality, on par with Ikea?

But I might be thinking of something else.

Room and Board is much better quality than Crate and Barrel. You are thinking of something else.

pp here: You're right. I was thinking of The Room Store

They have a store on 14th St in DC. You can go look at it in person. I was in their NYC store many years ago, and thought that some of it was fantastic, but one of the case pieces had veneers and didn't seem quite as good.

Room and Board is better quality than C&B, but C&B is still fairly good quality. It is a bit more expensive, too. Their design spins a little towards modern (mid-century), but can blend pretty seamlessly with other styles. It's very customizable (table tops, woods, upholstery choices). Love that store.

So far we're happy with our R&B table, but I'll need another 10 years to compare it with C&B.

We've been really happy with our pieces from R&B. Much of their wood furniture is built in the US with sustainably grown hardwoods. If you are pretty certain that your taste won't change, I think it is worth the price. At least for some of the items.

We have been really happy with our couches (so far).

Room and board quality is really good, their delivery is amazing, everything you buy-it could be a trucks worth for $250. They have excellent customer service as well.

We've done our living room recently, all with furniture from R & B. We also have a table and another sofa from them in our loft. The quality is great and their service is wonderful. Wouldn't hesitate to buy more from there.

Great to see such good reviews - thanks for the help! I just hope it won't be $250 to deliver the kitchen table I'm shopping for.

I have a lot of R&B furniture and I've been quite happy with the quality. I looked and looked and couldn't find anything that was as well made. You should definitely look at any pieces in person - some things are look cheaper than others. We had one item (an office chair) break and they replaced it for free. Believe the flat delivery rate is $69 in the DC area.

We also have a lot of R&B furniture--all solid wood and made in USA. We've had it appx. 5 years and still love each and every piece. Agree on the unbelievable delivery/setup service: on-time, courteous, professional (and we had it delivered to a previous location deep in the hinterlands that all other delivery services routinely couldn't find).

I've been very happy with the pieces we got from R&B. Great customer service and delivery too!
