The people who participated in sit-ins and marches in the 50s and 60s fully expected to be arrested and indeed were arrested without much resistance. But you had the bad optics of police using water cannons and attack dogs on non-violent marchers, which helped gather support for the protestors.

Now these people want meals delivered because they couldn’t plan to bring freaking food and water EVEN WITH OUTSIDE FUNDING AND COORDINATION!, and excused from their exams. And NYT had an article yesterday about how they cover their faces because they’re afraid of losing job offers or being deported if they’re on student visas. Which a lot of them are. Apparently we need to do a better job of investigating our student visa holders …

Unfortunately, not much will happen to these law breakers. There is no deterrence. So, we can expect more of the same.
And, if you think this administration is going to deport anyone here on student visas..... you haven't been paying attention. They will be commended, not deported.

Oh, I'm so relieved that they were given breakfast and not allowed to dehydrate or starve. I had been soooo very concerned for them!!

Yes when starvation is used as a weapon of war against civilians it is a crime against humanity. You know like in Gaza? If only the police were controlled by Israelis. They could have taken these students to black sites, tortured and starved them. We all hear about the mass graves in Gaza with the hands of the dead tired. Questioning or denouncing of Israel in the US is against the law!

Maybe we need to rush counselors in to help the pro Israeli student who feel unsafe or uncomfortable hearing about the horrific treatment of the Palestinians. I bet they are like the Germans who claim they never knew about the concentration camps down the road. Though the Germans would never have allowed protest like this.

As I said, I'm soooo relieved that protestors (with the emotional functioning similar to yours) weren't allowed to starve or dehydrate.

These students are learning activism from their professors.

Go for it. We support you in your effort to starve yourselves.

Princeton students dressed in Islamic attire announce they are going on HUNGER STRIKE.

“We will abstain from all food and drink except water until the following demands are met.”

Demands:

• Divest from Israel
• Cultural Boycott
• Complete Amnesty from all criminal charges

Can the students denied an education file a class-action lawsuit against these universities for failing to provide the education the students paid for?

Taking up seats at lunch counters of white people just trying to eat lunch is not free speech.

Fine, this seems reasonable. Just don’t camp and vandalize.

We should be proud of our young people
Something must be done, an entire nation cannot just be obliterated without someone doing something

Looks like Frat boys are the hope for the future of this country.

Can someone detail what a “culture boycott” is? Is that = barring Jewish students from holding Shabbat services? What does that mean and why should that play into demands?

Eye roll. This is just as annoying as the protestors. Feels a fit nationalist to me but whatever makes you feel like there’s “hope”.

Everyone needs to get a grip and go study for finals.

Cultural and academic boycott. No Israeli pianists in concert, no Israeli painter exhibits, no Israeli speakers in general, no partnership with Israeli universities for science research...They want to erase Israelis entirely and Israel as a nation, pretend it doesn't exist.

You are saying that they are asking for the university to no longer honor the sister university status that it has with one university in Israel.

Your last statement proves your ignorance

They literally state they want an academic boycott. I'm not the one saying it.

I don't think the purpose is to erase anything. The purpose is to demand that partners behave in ways that align with our values. Once they reform and behave in those ways, the purpose of the cultural and academic boycott no longer exists, and ties can be restored if both sides have interest in doing so.

Defending the indefensible. They said nothing of the sort. There is no nuance. They want to erase anything Israel.
