As soon as (white) people are let in on the secret that pg county is totally nice, that supply of housing will flood the market and depress prices in places like Rockville or ashburn. So people have a vested interest in maintaining the perception of pg as a crappy area with crappy schools.

That's fine with me! Enjoy your half million dollar mortgages, long commutes and schools ranked worse than mine .

But your commute is longer and you don't have higher ranked schools so help me understand your sarcasm?

My commute to downtown is 18 minutes (mount rainier) and my kids go to a magnet school that is a 9. But please, tell me about your 10 school and 15 minute commute!

Your commute from Mount Rainier to downtown is 18 minutes??? Do you have a space shuttle?

NP. Do you even know where Mount Rainier is? It's directly adjacent to DC. You could get to a lot of DC in 5 minutes from Mount Rainier.

That person has no idea where Mt. Rainier is

Unless you can't afford massive renovations and end up living in it for 15-20 years.

I had no strong opinion about Bowie before this thread but I feel the Bowie posters came off badly.

Someone asked "why isn't Bowie more popular." People responded -- far from DC, low performing middle / high school, and it's the richest part of a poorer county rather than the middle part of a richer area. Whatever. Questions were asked, answers were given

Instead of folks just saying what they liked about Bowie, the response from the Bowie posters was basically to trash / insult everyone else. We learned that Bowie is different / special from most everywhere else in PG (we aren't THOSE folks) and that anywhere that is wealthier or more white / Asian / Hispanic is snobby and/or racist. In particular, apparently "everyone in MoCo is racist" even though MoCo itself is like 40% white. And a lot of unnecessary trashing of the poorer parts of Silver Spring. And stories of commuting miracles, including the odd assumption that most people work east of Union Station. Also odd was the unspoken assumption that a great schools 7 means the same thing in every jurisdiction (sorry, it doesn't -- look at the test scores to confirm).

I'm sure Bowie is a fine place to live but the chips on your shoulders are obvious.

I had no idea I was racist for growing up / living in more diverse Gaithersburg instead of less diverse Bowie... oh the things you learn on DCUM.

Bowie has easier access to the bay, Annapolis and the beach. I love the water.

Actually, within a single state -- a GS rating IS supposed to mean the same thing since they are based on in-state comparisons of schools. So, yes, a GS-7 in Montgomery would be relatively equivalent to a GS -7 in PG.

I mentioned the HSs not being acceptable to people I know who live there.... I haven't heard anyone explain or contest that.
