My criteria: Is there a hospital in the area

Anonymous
Okay so I don't want this to come off the wrong way... like I had the best hospital in the world but I really enjoyed my 1 time around and want my second to be just as enjoyable.

I gave birth to my daughter who is 3 in another state. The hospital that I gave birth in was in my opinion nothing short of amazing. I got there went to triage until they prepared my private room which was standard. Mind you my contractions started at every 2 minutes. I got in my private room that was equipped with a jacuzzi just in case I wanted to birth some in the water. I delivered my daughter about 4 hours later and and never changed rooms my entire stay. Everything was done in the room and my daughter never was taken out of the room... they had built in cabinets that housed everything from the heat lamp and everything you need as soon as the baby is delivered. Even the hearing test was done in the room. I was told if it was boy he would be taken to another room if I chose to circumsize.

I am wondering if there is a hospital that sounds like it comes close to the experience that I had with my daughter. Now I know the staff can't be controled but the more I read I am seeing that either the rooms aren't private and you have to pay extra or the rooms are private but you get moved after delivery. I am willing to bend a little but I don't want my little one taken out of the room if possible. I would prefer if it could all be done where I am.

Also I am not pregnant yet but trying and want to get a OB/GYN and everything before hand

Thanks

Where in the area do you live? Holy Cross Hospital has private labor rooms (no jacuzzi tubs) and your baby stays in the room the entire time after it is born for bath, etc. You do have to move to a post partum room but again they are private. It is a mother baby unit so the baby stays with you the entire time unless you say otherwise. There are lots of great OB's that deliver there. What type of practice do you want - solo, group? If you live in Virigina I can't help you out-

PP here. I then definitely recommend Holy Cross. Go there and take a tour and see if you like it. The OB group that I recommend is Tyau, Sine, Band, Lizadro, Resta. Great bedside manner, professional, and personable. It is a busy group though so sometimes you do have to wait a little in the office but it is TOTALLY worth it. I delivered at HCH with my first almost a year ago. You could tell the nurses loved helping them out.

OP here... Thank you soo much! I will definately call them and see if they accept my insurance... BCBS

At HCH are the post partum rooms dad friendly? Is HCH breastfeeding friendly(I BF my daughter for 11 months)

Same PP. Yes the postpartum rooms and the L/D rooms have couches that fold down to almost a twin size. They will give you blankets and sheets for them. It's not home but it is far better then a sleep chair! I also breastfed my son exclusively and they were supportive of that. It took a little bit of time to see Lactation but they did come and they were very helpful. I know they accept BCBS and so does the OB group that I referred to as well.

You will probably be more comfortable moving to a post-partum room. The beds used for birthing are not made for sleeping/recovering.

I think most hospitals that have private rooms are dad-friendly.

The best place nearby is Anne Arundel Medical Center in ANnapolis. All moms get a free massage post-partum, there is no nursery, the staff is fabulous, all rooms are private, etc. But if you live closer to DC or in VA, it's a bit far. Especially if you already have a child that someone needs to be running back and forth for after the birth.

INOVA Alexandria has everything you have requested except for the jacuzzi. All rooms are private, and VERY family friendly.

No. Alexandria, you are moved to a different, yet private postpartum room. And not exactly close to Silver Spring.

Shady Grove Adventist -- exactly what you want including Jacuzzi's. You do go to a post delivery room eventually but they are equally nice. I think you should take a tour.

Another vote for Holy Cross - especially since you live in the area.

Delievered at Shady Grove and it has everything you are mentioning. The hospital was a great place for us.

Check out Shady Grove. You could also use the Midwifery Care Associates (http://www.midwiferycareassociates.com/) practice that delivers there; I hear they try to run interference for you if the staff that you happen to get on duty isn't ideal.

As far as I know Midwifery Care Assoc. accepts most insurance (except Kaiser). I have Optimum Choice and they take it.
