Fashion police, I need guidance....
Who can wear something like this, for example: http://www.anntaylor.com/ann/product/AT-Apparel/AT-PERFECT-PIECES/Modern-Cropped-Denim-Jeans/275459?colorExplode=false&skuId=10585252&catid=cata000018&productPageType=fullPriceProducts&defaultColor=1125 I'm considering something like that, though I don't love those colors, for spring. Just looks happy! I'm 31, 5'3, 119 pounds. Am I too old, fat, or short to wear these?! Thanks!! |
Honestly? They look like they belong on a kindergartener. Maybe it's the color. |
Not the yellow. No one should wear the yellow. But the red and blue seem nice for a casual day around town |
I wore purple stonewashed denim in the 80s when I was in 8th grade. I'm not sure adults can get away with it. Even with a killer body. |
My husband had gold jeans in the early '90s before I met him. I still mock him. |
Fat. nice one. |

I think you have to have skinny legs.
I am very fit. 5'5". However, I have very muscular thighs. I look great in a skirt or shorts--no cellulite. I do not look good in skinny jeans or any brightly colored pants. Colored denim would be disatrous on me. I am thinking very petite woman also would not look good. Thin women on the tall side (pencil legged women). I know my own limitations. Even if I like the fad--if it doesn't work with my body I won't wear it. I skipped the skinny jean phase...gotta have flare or bootleg in darker denim. |
yes, you can totally wear them. if you want to try out the trend, just get a cheap pair from H&M or from a similar store.
i also wonder if i am fat old and frumpy when i read responses on this forum. i am 32, 5'4", 4 months pregnant and just weighed in at 116. |
OP, I am the same age/weight/height as you and I totally think you can pull it off - though it could also go very wrong! I think the key with this trend is to pair the colored skinny jeans with very classic top, shoes and accessories. I think they'd look great with a crisp button down that hits below the bottom, or a tunic. Wear with classic wedges to add a little height. To transition into Spring during the in-between period I think they'd look great again with a button down, then add a shorter sweater over it like a cropped sailor-stripe.

You are not fat BUT I think your height/weight is not ideal. You need to be tall and long-legged to pull those kinds of pants off (I say this as a very petite 5'1) and at 5'3 I doubt you are leggy enough to wear them properly. On petite girls, even ones with nice, but short, legs, I think they just look childish. They're really cute, but I just think they're suited to a certain body type.
That said, ignore me if you want, and if you want a pair, they have tons at Target for $30. Don't spend $88 on them. |
Excuse me, let me rephrase myself: your height/weight is not ideal FOR THESE PANTS. Your height/weight sounds fine otherwise; didn't want to sound like an asshole. |
I happen to like some colored jeans, but it just depends on the color. However, these jeans are just monstrosities:

colored jeans are EVERYWHERE now -- AT, J. Crew, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales. i think they're cute. i'm 40 and i plan on getting a pair. NYT recently wrote about stylish moms and their "uniform" of red jeans. |
For goodness sake, people. They're colored jeans! Anyone can wear them. They are the biggest trend of the season. There's nothing risky about them. Go buy a pair, already. |
