Is your torso wider after the baby?

Anonymous
So I've been trying to lose the baby weight and it's going reasonably well, but I still have about 10 pounds to shed. However, most of that weight is in my butt and stomach, but I'm noticing that my tops simply don't fit the same way around my shoulders and upper torso. I know for a fact my boobs are not larger (sadly), but now all my tops are riding 2 to 3 inches higher on my waist, which makes them frankly unsuitable. Please give me hope (that it will "eventually" feel the same way once 10 pounds are gone) or send me shopping. As it is, I can wear exactly three sweaters out of my entire closet. I've refused to go shopping thinking will give me an additional incentive but now I'm thinking I might actually have to do this.

This is me, exactly. My boobs are WAY smaller, so I know that is not the reason my tops don't fit. Like you, they ride up and expose my muffin tops. I'm 10 months post partum and have been hanging on to old tops, but the fact that I haven't worn any of them is sad. I have decided to get rid of them and slowly buy clothes that are more appropriate. I"m also 10 lbs up and they won't budge. Sorry not much help here, but I totally understand.

My ribcage expanded and has never gone back. Some things just don't move back.

Yes! I had no idea why. None of my suit jackets fit well anymore.

I read something the other day- pre-baby weight does not mean pre-baby body. Something is always a little different.

I am 10months pp with DB#2. I am actually below pre-pregnancy weight, which also happened with DB#1. I have never been able to wear my tops again from before DB#1 - like you said, they all seem to have shrunk and ride up too high. I thought perhaps it was just that the style for shirts was shorter than, but reading about the rib cage expanding thing above makes sense.

I still have 5 lbs to lose from my pregnancy 6 years ago but I am sure once I lose it, my body will not be the same shape. It seems wider and things just sag more. That might just be an age thing too.

My torso is the opposite--smaller than pre-pregnancy, so weird---but I was told it can happen if the rib cage shifts, so it follows that it could get bigger too. My fitting issue is my hips, which I swear are wide though I have no formal pre-pregnancy measurements to compare to (had pre and post bra fittings for the top). Just a big pile of pants that don't fit. Argh.

totally different!

i have rather severe diastasis recti,so one year pp i still look 5 mo pregnant even within 5 lbs of prepreg weight.

poor me.

I believe it about the ribcage spreading. After DC1, my toes spread apart and never went back. My feet look like a monkey's, and no longer can I wear cute thong sandals.

Yes.

my rib cage definitely expanded... i had to buy those bra extenders bc all my bras are too tight and i didnt want to buy all new ones. i suppose i was hoping it would go back but i guess maybe not...

Same thing here. So many pretty button downs that I'll never wear again. Grrr

Same! I am down to my pre-pregnancy weight but I swear I will never look the same again. I have a ton of tops that will probably never fit me again. Everything definitely looks shorter. I just went through my clothes and have 2 trash bags full for donation. Probably could have given away more, but I am still holding out hope...
