13 month old is taking 3 hour naps...

Which is awesome but he's waking up at night all of the sudden. Am wondering if the two are maybe correlated and I should limit his nap. Anyone have a similar experience? what is a normal length for a 1 year old taking
one nap?

Try shortening his nap by 30 min. My dd used to take 3 hr naps too at this age. It was glorious. Now I have a five month odl who seldom naps.

Sleep begets sleep. Dont let the nap run too close to bedtime (maybe start eatlier) but i say napping is a good thing and promotes better sleep at night, IME.

My DS is 12 months and still does two naps a day, but they can get long (2.5 hours is common). Like PP says, I just make sure he isn't still sleeping too close to bedtime. I make him get up at least two hours before bedtime, and really run him around in that little break. Sometimes that means he doesn't get a second nap at all, but we've had a good run of STTN.

+2. My DC napped for 3 hours after transitioning to one nap. Try shifting the nap start time.

My 13 month old still takes two naps a day. His 9 am nap is usually 60- 90 minutes and his 1 pm nap is the same (usually one is 60 minutes and the other is 90). He sleeps about 13 hours straight at night though, and although I'd love a three hour nap break during the day, I'll take the night sleep any old time.

At that age and until 17 months, mine was on two naps totaling around 3.5 hours. Now, at 21 months, he takes one nap that is anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

15 month old still napping twice a day. Usually only 30-45 minutes in the morning but then she sleeps a good 2 or 2 1/2 hours in the afternoon. She goes down for the night at 7 and wakes about 6am.

OP here. We woke DS up after an hour and a half nap yesterday and he STTN last night and is so happy this morning. He was very pleasant yesterday too. Not sure if there is a correlation but hallelujah! He transitioned to one nap really early (10 mos) also so maybe he is just needs less during the day. The nap always starts around 11 am regardless of how long he sleeps so either way it's not too close to bedtime.

well shit. OP again...DS was up wide eyed from 2:30-4:30 am last night. Just when I thought we were headed in the right direction...

I would think 1.5 hours is really not enough and messing with his sleep cycles. At 13 months, my daughter was taking one 3 hour nap (at least). If it was under 3 hours it was considered a short nap.

Maybe he's teething, which is waking him up at night, and then he's so sleepy that it makes him take a longer-than-usual nap? You could try Tylenol tonight and see if it makes a difference.

14:48 again: fwiw, my DS is 23 mo and has taken a 3-hour nap ever since his day sleep consolidated. (He sleeps 11 hours overnight.) He's only just now starting to shorten that to 2.5 hours or so.
