concerns about California Baby products

Any of you catch the drama that unfolded on the CB Facebook page over the weekend? CB reformulated some of the products, in addition to changing labels, but did not disclose until many customers complained about reactions (severe in some cases). I was watching all the back and forth with great interest as we have been loyal CB users for nearly 4 years. The biggest change is the use of sodium benzoate as a preservative in some of the products.

As of this morning, CB has deleted all complaints and comments, including their own, from the FB site. At a minimum, they have handled the situation very poorly, but it appears that they have also deceived customers by denying, until recently, that there were any changes.

Here is a link to a blog that sums up the situation pretty well http://safemama.com/2012/01/21/california-baby-reformulation-drama/

Here is a link to a new FB page that was started to capture customer complaints and comments without CB deleting them from their FB page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/California-Baby-Complaints/241914029218867

I know California Baby is a frequently referenced brand on this site, so thought I'd share. I have loved these products, but will now be looking to other brands for our house.

Yikes! We use their products too...guess it's time to look for something new.

I have a friend whose daughter received a very severe sunburn due to their product just overall being ineffective. She found their customer service to be amazing and they even followed up with her a few days later to check. This was last summer. Again. They made some changes and didn't alter the labels in any way.

I'm off to see what I can expect from the body wash now. Ugh.

Thanks for the info OP. I just ordered more from Diapers.com today. We'll see what the label says.

*sigh* I just compared my bottle of CB Super Sensitive Shampoo and Body Wash with the CB web-site and they did add Sodium Benzoate to it. I don't know if I should trust getting it. And the bottle is about 60% gone. *sigh*

OP - here. I have a small stockpile of what appears to be the old formula of CB. I've been doing some research and it looks like Earth Mama Angel Baby is a strong contender, though I don't know how easy it is to find. I'm so annoyed!

This is infuriating.

thanks for posting this. I am really disappointed in CA Baby. I use their Calendula cream and their wash. I noticed the cream smelled differently and now I know why! I am so disappointed. I am going to check out Earth Mama Angel Baby too and the EWG for a new baby wash.

It apparently causes cancer.

We use scent-free Dr. Bronners and DD's skin has never been better. Since it's 1/3 the price of CB, I use it too!
