I recycle; eat organic; use natural products for the most part; baby wear to an extent; breastfeed to an extent and would like to compost or/and grow my own garden.
I think cosleeping is weird. I dont have time or the desire to cloth diaper. I also would never dream of nursing past 12months and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the outdoors. That's probably where i would out-crunch the crunchiest of people. |
how about natural birth with a midwife? Big crunchy points. Add another few for a home birth. |

I dont get the scoring system. Isn't there a varying level of doing each of those things? |
Don't forget family cloth, diva cup, no circumcision, no vaccines, lotus birth, and unschooling. |
Interesting but weird scoring level. Why is breastfeeding a 1 score and some of the others a 0? Is the goal to be low? I don't get it.
We do all of those things, we are not vegan or vegetarian but we avoid red meat and I do not any meat other than fish, but if that counts, then we are crunchy on every score including composting. But there is so much more to being "crunchy" than that and I think it's possible to do all of those things and not be "crunchy" at all. I'd say we are not crunchy at all but yet we do all of those things. |

Diva cup is 100 points. What's family cloth? |
OP here... sorry for the confusion. I meant each item = 1 point, and the values in the parenthesis were my own. I suppose I would probably get half credit on some too (we recycle, but not as much as we could). I like the other suggestions too, esp the home birth/midwife idea. |
I don't think not vaccinating is crunchy. It's something else. |
I'm a 6, and I'll give myself another point for being open to alternative therapies (within reason).
Agree that non-vaccinating is not crunchy. It's just wrong. |
I agree. I think that it would be wrong and insulting to add that to the list. |
You left Out a huge one: limiting the number of children you have to replacement level (2) or fewer. It makes most people very uncomfortable to acknowledge the fact that the singlemost 'eco' thing you can do is not overpopulate. All the vegan carless composting you can imagine doesn't even approach the environmental footprint of adding another human to the planet with a life expectancy of 80 years. Really. |
I scored 4.5. Baby wearing, cloth diapering, recycling, car-lite (1 car, and its a sedan. Hope to get a hybrid next time), 1/2 point for organic food (meats and most produce).
What about energy saving measures around the home? That'd bring me up to 5.5. And don't forget handwashing/bathing supplies. I don't bother with organic handsoap (too expensive) or cleaning supplies (doesn't always work as well) but the kids tend to use natural shampoo/bodywash. Not vaccinating is a bit crazy, IMO. There's a reason people fought to eradicate a lot of those diseases. They aren't pretty. |
