We still don't know the gender. Thoughts on these?
Boy: Elliot Calvin Edward Edmund Girl: Eleanor Margaret Caroline Rachel Hannah Nora Genevieve |
1942. |
Boy:
Elliot - like Calvin - OK, makes me think of Calvin and Hobbs Edward - OK Edmund - Don't like Girl: Eleanor - Love, it's DD's name so I'm biased Margaret - like ok, Love nn Maggie Caroline - OK Rachel - not a fan Hannah - meh Nora - love, was also considering it for DD but we know two Noras already Genevieve - like |
OP here. Lol, I know, I know. Although some of them are even more old-fashined than that. |
I like Edward and Edmund and Eleanor |
good list, and not just because it includes DD's name. |
Not really. Names like Elliot, Caroline, Rachel, Hannah and Nora are far more popular today than they were in 1942. Many of the others (Eleanor, in particular) are becoming trendy and likely to break the top 100 within another few years. I know more Eleanors under 10 than I do over 65. |
Boy:
Elliot - I like it a lot. Calvin - Like this one too. And Cal is a great nickname. Edward - I've always loved the nickname Ned, so I'd definitely use Edward (but Eddie is awful). Edmund - See above. Nice alternative to Edward (less "Twilight"). Girl: Eleanor - Nice but very common around here. I'd only use it with the nickname Nora. Ellie is too popular. Margaret - I've never cared for this one. Feels too spinster-ish to me. Caroline - Love, but also very popular. And I hate the nickname Carrie. Rachel - Nice but feels a little dated after its big popularity surge 15 years ago. Hannah - Overused. Feels very 1999. Nora - love Genevieve - love Great list! |
On the boys names, I don't particularly care for any of them. I do know a little boy Elliott, and he is adorable, so that one is probably my favorite out of your boy list. The name Elliott does make me think of the little boy from ET though. I do not care for Calvin (makes me think of Calvin and Hobbes or Calvin Klein) or Edmund. Edward is fine, but I think of Twilight.
As for the girls names, I love love all of them except for Hannah and Genevieve. Such beautiful, classic names. I probably like Eleanor (Ellie), Margaret (Maggie), Caroline, and Rachel the best. |
I vote for Elliott and Nora. In fact I wanted to name DS Elliott, but DH nixed it. |
I like all of them. Edmund and Rachel are probably my faves |
I love your list! We have very similar tastes.
Edward is definitely my favorite. (My dad's name, and what I will choose if we have a boy.) Elliot is also nice. Margaret is my favorite of the girls (also on my list , followed by Eleanor and Nora. Nora could be a nickname for Eleanor, so that's one way to have your cake and eat it too. I'm not as much a fan of Genevieve because it is a bit confusing to spell -- I have to pause and think about it, which means it will be a bit annoying for her -- and also because I really dislike Ginnie, which I think would be a likely nickname. |
Actually, I think Gen (Jen) or Genna would be the more likely nicknames for Genevieve, but Evie would also work and is super-cute. Ginnie is more of a nn for Virginia. |

love genevieve! |
