Stabbing pain in my cervix. Seriously - is this how it's going to be for the next 8 weeks?

Compared to my first pregnancy - where I got lucky and really had an easy go of it -- pregnancy #2 has been much rougher. I'm now 32 weeks and started to experience sharp stabbing pains to my cervix when I stood up & started to walk around. It lessened in severity a bit but it's still definitely there and present. I ended up going to see my doctor who confirmed that I hadn't started to dilate (thank goodness), who told me it is round ligament pain. Apparently these damn round ligaments which are still giving me fits when I try to roll over at night go all the way to the vagina and can cause these stabbing pains.

While I feel almost anything is better than delivering at 32 weeks, I'm wondering if this is going to be a constant thing for the remainder of my pregnancy or if it will just come and go. I searched the archives and there have been a couple of posts, but I'm also wondering -- if you experienced this, how often it came back and was there anything that you could do to alleviate it?

oooo!!!! I just want to say....I totally hated the 3rd trimester. And, I think I had those the entire last month.

Thank you for reminding me why I don't want to be pregnant again.

Third trimester has been a bit rough for me too, I'm pregnant with third. Seems everything is breaking in a lit earlier, the uncomfortableness, the stabbing pains in the vagina, the braxton hicks sometimes sooo strong it's hard to tell the difference from regular contractions. This started at about 32 weeks for me as well. Nausea returned and holy crap the heartburn! I just keep telling myself, there is an end point here soon enough and they're easier in than out Commiseration is all I have to offer in short!

My stabbing pains have come and go. But I have the crazy intense Braxton Hicks. I'm wondering what I'll have left to manage labor pain, if it's taking breathing tricks now to get through the 'false contractions.'

I had those stabbing pains starting at about 32 weeks too. They'd literally stop me in me tracks when I was walking, but didn't indicate the baby was coming at all -- I ended up being induced at 42 weeks (and have a c-section after that; she really had no intention of coming out).

Yep! Lightening crotch would bring me to my knees.

The stabbing pains can sometimes be the baby poking you, strange as it is. Not at all pleasant.

Oh man, this brings back memories. I had these starting at 34 weeks with my first pregnancy, and they continued probably until the week prior to giving birth. Totally random, and while conventional wisdom said they were round ligament, they felt more like nerve pains to me (I had some sciatic nerve issues in month six). The "lighting" feel to it and how it would stop me dead in my tracks (without any lasting effect) is what tipped me off to the nerve issue. Nothing you can do but wait it out, although it's likely they will subside the closer you get to your due date. I am pregnant with #2 right now and am praying these don't re-surface. Good luck - wishing you an easy next two months!

Timely post - I'm 31 weeks and having the same issue. Sometimes it's random (lightening is a good description), sometimes it's associated with the sensation that my baby is trying to pop an arm out my crotch. Really distracting and uncomfortable.

My doctor totally acted like I was crazy when I mentioned this. It's been very off and on for me -- comes out of the blue but goes away for sometimes a week or two at a time. Sorry for your suffering, but kind of glad I'm not the only one!

OP here. I'm also glad I'm not the only one and that it also doesn't mean that early labor is guaranteed. I agree with one of the PP that it alternates between feeling like lightening and that the baby is about to just pop out. Thankfully the pain has pretty much gone away but there's still discomfort, especially whenever I try to rollover in bed.

I just keep reminding myself that it will all be worth it when this kid finally arrives in another month and a half!
