3 months post-partum C-Section - still in pain

Anonymous
Just about 3 months post partum with my second c-section. Still sore...anyone else? Or just me? My abdomen feels so "fragile" - that's the only word I can think to describe it. I do have intermittent pain still. Have been to the doctor and nothing appears imminently wrong - anyone else feel this way?

I had little pin prick feelings for a while, not something I would describe as pain though...more of a sensation. No infection? No burst internal stitches? I did that with my 1st section and it was a horrible pain, so bad that I knew something was wrong immediately.

Could be some really tight scar tissue. Or scarring that is adhereing to some of the pelvic organs. You can ask your OB to write you a perscription for some physical therapy. They can do some manual, deep tissue messaging of your abdomin to release some of the really tight areas. This really helped me a lot. It isn't pleasant but it worked well for me. In addition to losening the adhesions it helped desensitize the area.

They also had me do some pelvic floor and abdominal exercises and stretching of the muscles. Funny thing....walking backwards on a treadmill can really help losen tightly scarred abs.

Interesting about the physical theraphy - and good tip about the tred mill. It feels like it is so tight/pulling - may be it is scar tissue or the stiches...very helpful thanks! Glad to know I am not the only one...

It took me about a year to feel normal again.

No problem!

Yeah, it sounds like you are one of the unlucky few with problematic scarring. It's not rare but definitely not really common. FWIW I've had 3 major abdominal surgeries and only once did I need PT for adhesions. It's weird. I also developed a keloid at the incision site with the problematic surgery. My own opinion is that something with my immune system was out of wack during that surgery since I had so many scarring issues with that one but not the others.

Also make sure you find a therapist who is very skilled at post surgical adhesion therapy. I went to a practice in Bethesda near Montgomery Mall. It's been several years so I don't remember the therapist unfortunately. I think it was on Rock spring drive. Maybe in the Champlain or Cavalier buildings???? Anyways, great care... they have pilates equipment too which was great for targeting the lower pelvic muscles. Maybe ask about that?
