Delivery at Fair Oaks?

Anonymous
Hi,

I'm newly pregnant with # 2 and am thinking about changing OBs this time around. I've been looking at maybe going to someone at Fair Oaks, because it's closer to my home and it's recommended from a nurse friend.

I'm curious about any thoughts good or bad from a delivery there and any doctors you'd recommend or prefer not.

Thanks!!!

most of the nurses that I had at FO were great - I have to say I didn't particularly like the lactation consultants there, but probably because I was so flustered and didn't know what to do or the right questions to ask. My first nurse that I had when we checked in was a a royal B but all the other nurses were soooooo wonderful.

I love my OB but they are not taking any new patients but you can try - its Dr. Hodges and Dr. Zaita - they are both WONDERFUL doctors.

Delivered DD at FO back in May. She was our first so I didn't know what to expect and didn't have anything to compare it to.

The L&D staff was pretty good. I was kinda peeved the one gal left to have lunch with her boyfriend as my contractions (and delivery) were more intense, but another person took over. Just sorta odd. My delivery was uneventful

I like FO too because my doc. office was the building next door and since I delivered mid morning during the week, the doc. literally ran over to the hospital in about 2 minutes.

The PP were ok. The night crew weren't the best nor the most attentive. I enjoyed having a private room though which I think is guaranteed, but double check. The policy might have changed. I also liked that the DD could stay by my side the whole time and nobody pushed to wisk her to the nursery.

The lact. consultants were ok. There were a few good ones and a few that weren't quite as personal and caring which accounts for a lot for a new mom who was exhausted, clueless, and frustrated with nursing.

I found the things-you-need-to-know-once-you-leave-the-hospital information session very helpful.

DD spent a week in the pediatric unit after I was discharged. That was pretty good. I was allowed to stay over night with her since I was nursing so I had a bed. It was empty so we got a ton of attention.

Like I said, this was our first so I am not sure what is considered standard nor did I have any other birth to compare it to, but it went well for us and if #2 ever happens we will definitely chosoe FO.

Oh, the parking is free too.

Sign up for a maternity tour if you can.

Good luck.

Yes, I confirmed the Hodges/Zaita practice is not taking patients.

Any other recommendations for OBs for that hospital?

Thanks!!!

I'm the 2306 poster - Fairfax OB/Gyn Associates. Not sure if they are accepting new patients though, but you could google their website (for more info.) and call to find out.
