What's going on with Lily on Modern Family?

Why is she so quiet? I don't think I've heard a peep out of her, ever. She's adorable, but she seems sedated. Anyone know?

I think she's more of a prop than a character.

She always seems pretty shellshocked. I think they plop her in front of the cameras as needed, but may not really work with her.

She's incredibly cute, but pretty personality-less. I don't think the writers or producers have really done anything to change that.

I read on a message board somewhere (where this was a VERY hot topic) that they (two different babies, twins) were nervous around the cameras. On home movies and pictures they are happy, walking/talking babies (or so the message board said).

I always ask my DH about this. She is completely non-responsive like not even a smile or a cry out of her. She is just blank. I dont get it at all! Did they intend to cast this way? She just seems completely terrified or out of it?

Must you always see problems or developmental delays???? Most of the young toddlers I know freeze up when they are around a lot of people (at least for a little bit) and I can only imagine what the sights and sounds of a television studio would do!

I'm the prop poster. I've always thought she is what they wanted for the role. I don't think she is supposed to be a focus or an attention-getter. As of now the focus is on the pair of them and their relationship and she's an accessory/prop.

I don't regularly watch the show, but from I have seen they are probably trying to avoid a repeat of Olsen twins/Full House where the baby steals the show. Which I think is a good move.

Glad I'm not the only one who is mildly concerned about that child. "Prop" is right. I wonder if they swap one baby out for the other when one gets active, so as always to have the least-animated baby possible.

Hey, anyone remember the cat in Gigi? That poor thing was sedated within an inch of its life. (It's possible I was the only kid who was allowed to watch a movie about a Parisian prostitute, over and over again.)
