This is proven fact. Crime dropped after Roe v. Wade let women skip having forced births. I was one of those forced births and I hate with a murderous passion the prolife fools who put my birth mother through hell. |
Ivana divorced Donald. Not sure about Marla Maples. Melania is not going to file for divorce from Trump no matter what. |
There is polling that reveals why people don’t want kids. Hopefully people can stop making up nonsense about the reasons for fertility decline in the US. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/11/03/millennials-only-children/ |
I think another factor is the number of “failure to launch” men who are not really marriage material. I have a number of friends and a SIL (all mid 40s+ now) who wanted to marry and have kids but it just never happened. Not enough good guys to go around. All of them possibly could have “settled” or become single moms but didn’t feel strongly enough to go to such lengths. All are happy with their lives - lots of friends, career, hobbies etc. and don’t seem to have any real regrets.
I think in times past, they would’ve felt more pressure to settle and marry. Many did, I think. I don’t remember knowing many “single never married” middle aged+ women when I was a kid. None in our extended families or our social circle/neighborhood that I recall offhand. Now I know many! |
That story wanders all over the place. Basically it is because of Republican policies that shred any social support. The resulting cost and the accessibility of great birth control.... especially IUDs... mean women just aren't that interested. |
I knew a number of older single women at church in the 1970s. Had a couple of "maiden" great aunts who never married. These were all middle.class or lower middle class white women who are all deceased now. Pre Roe v Wade and pre accessible birth control, women who wanted to have a career or a job, or who didn't have great marriage prospects, tended to stay single. My great aunts had marriage proposals, but they knew what living and having children with a man who might beat them or be an alcoholic looked like and opted to stay single. When women had fewer choices, sometimes it made more sense to stay single than to get married and have kids. |
Neither cost nor access to social services are cited by millennials as the top reasons why they don’t want kids. Did you even read the survey results? |
If the reason was because of Republican policies, how do explain the near identical drop in fertility among Nordic women? |
NP A google search reveals this: In Norway, fertility began declining in the mid-1960s, driven by the strong expansion of education, especially for women, later and fewer marriages, and the wide acceptance of new contraceptive technologies. |
Pointing out the fact that neither Trump or Biden should be president until 2029 doesn't make you a Republican or Democrat. It makes you a non-partisan decent American with an IQ over 95. Get with it. Second graders are figuring this out. |
Yes. I was born Vietnam war era. My mom said she and my dad considered not having kids because the world seemed so bleak then. I’m glad they did. |
This didn’t come up until page 4 of this thread and is barely followed up, but is important. Anyone who’s taken at least one statistics class understands that decreasing fertility rates (due to environmental toxins) has at least some impact on birth rates. We trash the planet, the planet trashes us - karma’s a b!@tch. |
There are more left leaning men with high estrogen levels these days. Dribbling blanks. |
Tyreek Hill has 10 kids
Nick Cannon has 10+ kids elon has 8 kids chief keef has 12 kids I worked in the NBA and the players many times had more kids than the coaches/trainers/assistants/vp's etc -- it was a natural experiment of sorts -- if you want to boost the birth rates, it seems money definitely helps - but it's money during your sexual prime. not money at age 50 |
No. Young men are skewing conservative Women are skewing liberal. Women are opting out. |
