Um, okay. So I went to refill the water tank on our coffee maker this morning and discovered ants on the outside of the water tank (keurig style coffee maker). LOTS of them. I think they built a nest there. We put the coffee maker outside with a terro bait and put more terro baits in the kitchen. Any idea how long to let the terro baits work on the coffee maker before we hose it down? Sigh. |
2 days- and we had a ton of ants! |
it gets worse before it gets better but it works great! |
Why is the OP gross? When I saw the warning I thought the ants had eaten OP's cat or something. |
2 or 3 days.

Thanks - so is it better to leave the ants undisturbed for a couple of days? Or can I hose off the coffee maker? I really want them GONE.
9:21 - gross because I had just drank coffee made with the machine! I don't think the ants got into the tank/brewing part but still . . . |
stop whining. Ants are an excellent and cheap source of protein. In many countries they are considered a delicacy. |
haha you are funny! |
Seriously! It's not like you licked a roach or ate rat crap. Possibly drinking ant poo coffee--totally funny!!! |
Immediately. Also, you should get the grains and put them all around the outside of your house and this keeps them from coming in. I have a dog and I bought a really cheap plastic foot-high fence and he never tried to knock it down. I also had one room in the basement which seemed to be the one place they kept coming in and I sprinkled some next to floor boards and put something there so children and pets could not get to it. Solved aunt problem immediately. You can also get some of the green stakes and put them around the house and they work well for a couple of months and then you have to put new ones in. Good luck. |
We keep our crazy aunt in the basement. I don't know why you'd want to drive yours out of the basement. |
We finally came to the conclusion that Aunt was the queen of the ant colony and she had to go. It was painless--no screams. We did throw water on her and she melted. Educational for the kids and DH and I enjoyed it as well. |
Leave them undisturbed - they all flock to the terro and bring the poison back to their nest to poison them at the source, I think. Cruel, I know. I wonder how vegans solve ant problems? |
Ants love warm spots like plugged-in appliances. We discovered a colony trying to establish itself inside one of our UPCs (backup power supply) - when we opened it up the little buggers were scurrying around trying to carry the eggs away to safety! So gross. |
