Shocking! Just Shocking! About Sperm Banks (Cryobanks)

Anonymous
I don't hate anyone but come on!

I was doing a web search about sperm banks or cryobanks and came across the following:

(Note the part about keeping their gene and the agenda going.)

I initially thought it was a joke website, but this is serious. People are being advised to be deceptive.

http://www.gaygamete.com/sperm_donate.html

All the sperm banks are listed on the site including Fairfax and California Cryobank. Geez!

VERY STRANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope this is not for real.

Thanks for posting, pp. Crazy world we live in!!!

This is just so wrong on so many levels.

I hate to say it but I'm sure that at least some egg and sperm donors lie about previous mental illness, sexual orientation, cosmetic surgery, etc. The money is really attractive.

(OP) I know that anyone can lie at any time and for any reason, but this is an organized effort to target those folks who are the most vulnerable due to infertility.

I don't know how old the website is or even if it's still active, but if you look around the website, you will see the sinister plan of multiplying this gene exponentially.

As I said earlier, I don't hate anyone.

But this? This is just sick!

This was an art project done by an artist named Clover Leary. Meant to stir just this type of response.

Clover Leary, 2000. Tactical media projects such as this apply many of the techniques associated with parody, performance and activist art. In this case, Gay Gamete demystifies egg and sperm donation industries and details how activists can intervene in procedures which in the U.S. exclude ‘gay and lesbian DNA’.

Parody or not, some nut jobs are doing exactly as they suggest. What's to stop them?

PP how do you know? I think there is an awful lot we who use donors to conceive don't know about our donors. That is a risk you take. I don't for a minute believe there is some rush of glbt donors trying to game the system though.

This is funny.

Wow OP, you doth protest too much. The homophobia/anti-gay attitude (maybe you are in denial about this) just jumps from your posts. One moron (or as others have clarified he's an artist and an effective one) creates one website and you go straight to talking as if this is an effort by the gay community. Newsflash: There is no gay gene and gays having babies is not going to impact whether there are gays in the future or not. Sinister plan. You've got to be kidding. How could you even believe that? Come on. Grow a brain.

Just in case you missed my point. If I am mad about a website created by a black person or a Jewish person, I would not feel the need to clarify that I don't hate the group of them, unless of course I secretly do have issues.

Why is it so sick? You don't want a baby whose sperm donor is gay? Lame. You must have nightmares about pride parades also. I, for one, think it is ridiculous that gay men cannot donate sperm to banks. I'm glad this project draws attention to that.

As a research biologist, I can tell you there is no gay gene.

I'm with the prior three posters -- there is no "gay gene," so when I came across that website in my own cryobank research, I thought it was kind of goofy and disregarded it.

But I also wonder why, if this were true, it would be so "sinister" or "sick." I don't consider homosexuality to be "sinister" and I don't think it can be spread genetically. Obviously, heterosexual couples have been producing homosexual offspring since forever. If homosexuality is a gene, how do straight people keep passing it on?

If you don't want a homosexual sperm donor, that's fine, whatever. But be honest: when you're saying something is sinister and sick and you're calling gay men who might want to donate sperm "nut jobs," you're making your real feelings quite clear.

LOL and how are the "vulnerable infertile" really being targeted? Ooooooooh yikes they might get the sperm of some handsome, smart, fit gay guy. Sounds like you can't stand the idea that your child's "dad" could be gay. Guess what, if it's anonymous sperm donation, your guy's dad could be a closet mass murderer. Get over it.

Personally, with the crazy battery of tests they do on these guys and their sperm, it's kind of offensive that Fairfax has a question as to whether these guys have had an encounter with a man. Guess what, what about a far more risky encounter with a prostitute or, for that matter, certain categories of women are high risk for transmitting diseases like HIV.
