Family budget if your HHI is around 375k

Anonymous
You're paying a big mortgage on what I would assume is a nice house, car payments for nice cars, good education for your kids, insurance for everything & all other expenses and you're complaining you only have $2500/month to save for vacations? What more could you want? I understand that those who make $200,000 plus annually work hard for their money (well most do) but as long as all your needs are comfortably met what more could you want in life? $2500 per month is still more then enough to take the family on a good holiday every year.
I bust my ass 6 days a week to just cover my living costs (groceries, rent, car expenses, bills) yet I'm not complaining. If you want to cut back on expenses get less expensive cars, send your kids to a good school that isn't ridiculously expensive, cut back on damn piano lessons!!!!
More money, more problems (or so you would lead people to believe).

At some point you need to realize that it's your fault for not having enough money at the end of the month, and not the tax rates for where you live or the cost of living for where you live.

I choose not to send my kids to some ghetto school with a bunch of drug dealers. It's just logical, and you would too if you had the money.

You obviously are blind to the fact that the DC area (Northern VA for instance) has some of the best public schools in the nation. Not all public schools are bad. If you are not making it on 375K per year, then you should get no sympathy considering that you choose to send your kids to private schools when it is absolutely not necessary. Additionally, you also appear to believe that nothing bad or illegal happens in private schools. I personally know people who went to top-tier prep schools, many years ago, in the DC area that engaged in illegal activities including drugs and underage drinking. Stop lying to yourself and just admit that you fail at managing your money. Honestly, the only way people like yourself are going to change your outlook on money is by losing it all and having to struggle.

Who said anything about private? They go to public school, and in order to get into the top schools in McLean,va or in DC, you need to live there. That means that you are going to spend an arm and a leg. At least $700 or $800k, and the more desirable parts are going to be even higher.

You are missing the point here... Stop being so narrow minded and think about living within your means. If necessary downsize and live a simpler life. A sensible person wouldn't have financial issues when you make 375K per year.

I see my posts have been deleted. Nice to see protective censorship at work. *thumbs up* I guess "peasants" aren't allowed to speak in a public forum either? (And I won't be surprised when this post is deleted as well..)

We only delete posts when you peasants try to incite a class war.

Anonymous wrote:Hi, Looking over your monthly budget none of your expenses are exuberant for DC. Except maybe since your kids are that young you probably don't need tutors, but you know best for them. If you try really hard with you might be able to shave a couple hundred here or there but the effort will be enormous and the payoff would be small.

Your best bet is using your time/effort looking for other ways to increase your income.

And for people complaining, a $500000 income in DC is not that much since expenses are so high here. For example the $2500 the OP has left over will pay for just 4 or 5 nice dinners out for the entire month when you include a sitter and a cab.

Bwahahahahahahah! If we spend $100 on dinner it's a real splurge. What planet are these people living on? It's staggering to me.

We make ~325k per year. We honestly have more money than we know what to do with, and it's not like we're living in a crappy house or being super frugal. I just can't wrap my head around making 50k more and feeling strapped.

another one here. Our income from our jobs is about 325K but we also earn money from our money. After maxing out two 401Ks and everything else, we still have between 5 and 10K a month more to invest. We live in NoVa. Have one old and one new car. Have a child in expensive preschool. We are about to hire a nanny for #2 and yet we will STILL have money to save at the end of each day. We have take 1 international trip this year (paid cash from monthly income) and another domestic trip this last weekend, same. we don't dine out a lot b/c I"m lazy with child (expecting).

Now, our mortgage is about 2k. We paid off the part above 417 quickly. We paid of school loan debt and only have the mortgage and new car payment. We kept the car payment b/c the interest rate is 3%..hard to beat.

We don't shop for entertainment either. Maybe that help.s

I somehow make it work as a single mother making $8 an hour as it's damn near impossible finding a job with my grad degree, with a deadbeat ex paying less than $400 a month in child support and receiving absolutely no help from my mommy or daddy seeing as how my mom killed herself when I was a kid and my dad choose his new family over me. Fuck You. Find a real problem.

I pay my college summer babysitter $12 an hour. How can you accept $8 an hour? McDonald's pays more than $8 an hour.
