Langley School

OP, if you're looking at K-8 in that part of Va, take a look at Green Hedges too. They really did an amazing job with distance learning and served as a model for many other schools.

I also heard good things about Congressional, K-8.

We have been a Potomac family for 6 years. We make seven figures and feel “average” there. Some super rich people and some not as much. Some great families and you your share of snobs... but that’s the case in any DC area private....

Nobody asked what the average family income was at Potomac, or your own, but thanks for the helpful brag post. 🙄

We are disgruntled FCPS parents and are looking at options for the 2020-21 school year if there is space anywhere. I'd be interested in others' experiences with distance learning as well as the regular school experience.

Good school, but you are well past the admissions deadlines for the year. Are they still accepting applications for both of those grades?

Are they any okay privates for 2020-21 school year accepting? W rare fine with robust DL, just things like Laurel Springs is just a correspondence course.

Langley's Head will be leaving after this year. Any parents know what the goals are for the next Head of School. Current is very well liked, correct?

You seem to show up on every thread. You do nothing but make Potomac look bad. I would also not at least Six of the 8th grade graduating class at Langley are destined for Potomac as well as every other top school.

Langley parent here. Yes the head was very well liked and we are sad to see her go. The incoming head of school does seem very promising as well. We were very happy with distance learning this year ( rising first grader) but of course are hoping for more in person time this fall. Also, we did tour Potomac but it felt very large and overwhelming for the younger years. We did not apply there but would definitely consider it later. Not every child is ready for a huge campus at 5 years old. I have friends there who love it for their children but I know Langley was the best fit for us at this stage. It is a very warm and nurturing environment. The parents we’ve met have been very low-key, welcoming and friendly which has also helped.

Oh, head of school is going to be head of NCS, so you can’t pass that up.....

We got into Langley, Nysmith, and Potomac and chose. . Nysmith, but honestly all three were fantastic. We ended up looking at the personality of our child and their academics to make the decision.
Positives for Langley - amazing parent network, TONS of community, VERY nurturing, the camp there is also wonderful, academics ramp up in later years and the kids do great for high school admissions.

+ 1

Also, there are plenty of Uber rich families in NW DC, Bethesda, and Alexandria. Most of them just fly under the radar. I think having a 7 figure income and feeing average is not unusual at any area private (at least, the 40K ones).

But there’s something about mclean and Potomac.... people there just NEED to advertise their wealth. I don’t know if it’s a new money thing or what, but it’s a real turn off for many (myself included).
