+1. Money without accountability does not help anyone. There were several news about Baltimore not utilizing their funds properly during the past few months and you want to give them more money? |
|
While my heart goes out to the children in Baltimore, I see no reason why MoCo taxpayers should pay more to support Baltimore City students and receive less educational support for mcps while UA CEO Kevin Plank gets ridiculously one-sided tax breaks and subsidies from the city. Not to mention the owners of the two stadiums who received similarly one-sided sweetheart deals from the city and the state...in association with the stadium lottery that was meant to not only offset the costs of the stadiums, but also fund education. Well, we all know that never happened. Next we had the casino fairytale that voters fell for...with no new money trickling down to education as promised. And next they claim marijuana money will magically save the day! Poppycock. Pure poppycock.
But personally, knowing how much lost tax income Baltimore City gave away to stupid Kevin Plank/UA prevents me from feeling sorry for the city. Put your people first, Baltimore. |
| Aren’t Hogan’s luxury lanes going to help fund education? |

I’m going to chime in that I am voting against Jealous mainly for the ridiculous idea of Universal preK! I hope people give this more thought before assuming it’s the best idea.
Honestly, MCPS can’t even accommodate the students that is currently has. Our MS has class sizes in the 30s. Our 5th Grade Compacted Math class has 35 kids in one classroom. There are no extra classrooms where MCPS can accommodate 4 years olds for preK. Also, we are at a Title 1 school and see the kids who have gone through the current Head Start program. It’s great in theory, but the kids are still behind in K-2nd grade. It certainly doesn’t seem to be a good ROI. Make class sizes smaller and MCPS more efficient and then I can get behind Universal preK. |

NP. In North Bethesda/Rockville there’s a community that non-residents aren’t allowed to walk through. Does that count? |
The governor is having the fight with Baltimore schools because when the state of Maryland gave them zillions of dollars they didn’t spend the money on the kids or the schools. Gosh knows where it was going. First the corruption needs to be fixed apparently. So yes now they aren’t getting tons of money but when they were gettings tons of money it wasn’t being spent on improving things for Baltimore students. https://www.google.com/amp/www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/politics/bs-md-hogan-education-20180108-story,amp.html Everyone wants Baltimore city school kids to have better lives. Baltimore is such a mess - I’d like a governor who promises to get the damned lead out of the houses that these kids are growing up in. Why can’t we do that??? |
| Is this the same Ike Leggett who pushed for 5% gas tax? Not at all interested in his opinion. Hogan has left MoCo schools in a state of overburden, over subscribed, underpaid teachers and general "dont care" attitude. |
No, Hogan's Lexus lanes are going to pay for building the Lexus lanes. Or, anyway, that's what they're saying. |
Which/where? |
In pitching his investigator, Hogan pointed to allegations revealed this fall that Baltimore County’s top leaders failed to disclose they were paid contractors of a company awarded hundreds of millions in school technology contracts, to a mold problem in Howard County schools two years ago, and to an ongoing controversy about alleged grade-tampering in Prince George’s County. Amid Baltimore City schools’ ongoing heating crisis, the governor also sharply rebuked the city school system for its way of spending money, accusing the district of having some of the highest administrative costs in the country and mismanaging state taxpayer dollars that help pay for schools. |
There’s weird townhouses near the rockville Whole Foods - on Edson Lane, right? They have gates that rise and fall with passcode or card entry. Those? |
Where is that? |
| PP, could you provide evidence of Jealous specifically and clearly outlining his casino & marijuana plan? |
| I agree with PP, we cannot blame Hogan for a local issue and if we really want to be honest as parents and community members we should blame ourselves. Didn’t we elect our local officials? Did we take a hard look at their beliefs instead of just voting along party lines? I am grateful that MCPS had Hopkins look at their curriculum and are actively looking for something better. But this goes to show that we must hold the flame to our local governing officials feet. We should be calling and emailing the board every week about what we want to see in the new curriculum. Gather your PTA troops. |
